Nice Super K! My Super K Has a lot of additional welds on it as well. I can cut those off but my biggest problem is the wide hoop supporting the steering wheel was cut off and a narrow hoop welded on.

So once I cut off the front porch and side bars, then I'll locate and weld on a wide hoop. Then I'll hopefully be as far along as you. Nice project you have there!!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the kind words. Having a blast working on it. However, it gets pretty cold here and my garage is not heated. May have to get a space heater soon to "keep the party going" this winter.

Porsche, my plan was to build some cool retro-looking aluminum L brackets, all polished with lightening holes. Should look pretty old school. I was bummed to find out the flywheel shroud on the Duraforce is made out of plastic. L-B has a commercial version of the motor that I think has a metal shroud. If I can score a couple, I may chrome 'em.

Ken, the Super K is a three-wheeled personal transporter Rupp built in the 60's, wasn't it? I have the wide hoop from my scrap frame still intact. If I don't use it, you can have it. Just pay for shipping. Or check out RobRon, he makes reproductions of these frames off the original Rupp tooling. He may sell you just the hoop (or a later model Rupp narrow hoop) if you need one quicker. PS...nice wheels.

Fast Eddie:
It's most assuradly a great kart. Go to this link: http://www.rearenginekarts.com/kart%20registry.htm and click on Devin Troy and you'll see a great shot of a restored one.
Go to ebay and check out item 380166833886 for an ad for a Super K.
And also check out the replies I received on my initial inquiries: http://www.vintagekarts.com/forum/view_topic.php?id=1117&forum_id=2
And as for the steering hoop, I'll take it. Let me know what shipping is to 49546. I'll PM you with an address. Thanks!

why do you want to replace the hoop?

I would like to get is close to stock appearance as I can. The narrow hoop was most likely added when the front porch was put on. That way i assume he could have his legs straight.

I realize for my grandson, the hoop shape won't matter and if I keep the narrow hoop it won't be a tragedy. But eventually I'd like to add the correct tank, upholstery and wheels.

But money talks so we'll see how serious I am once I get deeper into it.

Just an FYI-my scrap kart was from when I was a kid. I don't know how big your grandson is, but I had a hard time getting my legs around that wide hoop when I was little.

You have a PM Ken.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Just a quick update. Spent some time out in the garage today. Got both motors off. Only one de-greased, though. Check 'em out.

Frame still at the sandblasters. Should have it back this week. Ordering the clutches 'n' carbs in the next couple weeks too. Then I'll have everything I need to mock up the mounts.

Stay tuned, more updates to follow.

Looking good Eddie. What model clutches did you deside to go with?

Thanks. I'm having the cranks turned down to 3/4" so probably a shoe-type clutch (to keep costs down) that has some adjustability to the engagement RPM. From what I see in Russ' video, the Noram 1600 clutches are engaging too soon (I think the 1600's engagment RPM is 2000 range). So something from maybe 2500 to 3500+ RPM adjustibility range would work. Some of the clutches for Briggs Animal motors seem like they'd work. You can find nice ones for under $100 (for 3/4 bore).

Cool, with 3/4" you got all kinds of clutchs to choose from.

Have you already checked out these Noram replacement springs: http://host179.ebm.bestsoftwarehost.com/images/2007 NORAM SPRING ENGAGEMENT CHART.pdf

I instaled a set of green/3700 rpm springs on my Star clutch, they were only like $10. My clutch still works great, just has a higher stall speed and a better launch

Thanks Anderkart. It doesn't cost me any $$ to have them turned down, a keyway cut, and the end drilled and tapped for a clutch bolt. It'll give me more options for clutch selection, I don't have to dink with trying to cut my own keyways, and I don't have to deal with shimming the clutch.

Still trying to find some rebuilt carbs. Didn't want to buy new.

Sounds like you got a good machine shop hookup there. Would it be feasible to just build an intake manifold (or adaptor section) that would position the stock carbs upright? (or do you want diferent carbs anyway?)

Stock carbs are junk. Hey Russ, will the Tilly 330 bolt right up? I forgot to ask you that.

Nice little engines, whats thier ratings? and ur lucky to have machinework done for free

6.5HP. Yeah, good friend of mine is a machinist that works for his father-in-law. He said it's real easy. He said he may have an hour at most into both.

PS-Frame won't be back from the 'blaster til Wed.
