Yep his rod hits the block. And the block is pretty thin at that point.

Yes, right there the block is VERY thin. I drilling right around there for a pulse port on 3HP, it was literally 1/16-1/8" thick.
I was using a .590 Wiseco Piston, and a stock length Raptor rod.

Kartless....
You could get a shorter ARC rod and cut a hole in the block and have a plate welded over the hole.

It's not a scrub brake, it was supposed to be an adapter for the intake.

I try to be nice. But he CLEARLY stated it was a intake AND the kart already had brakes in the pic. And trust me it could get ALOT nastier but let's not go there.

Oh, that area must be thinner on a 3/3.5 block than on a 5. And I'm with ya, I'd be pissed too.

The shortest rod they make for the 5HP Briggs is the 3.870... unless you wanna go custom... and a .005 difference doesn't do much.
Hmm....guess that isn't an option either. How determined are you to make this work? I ask because you could use extra head gaskets and if you do the math and do some thinking you might be able to come out ahead. Using extra gaskets would solve the piston clearance issue, and with the head higher up you will be able to use a much higher lift cam. See where I'm going with this? It all depends on how much you want it. I would clearance the block and then take a good look at it. If you feel unsafe with it that way (too thin) then I'd do what Kenny said and make a "box" that extended out of the block right there.
But then again,how much hp will this thing end up putting out? Is it worth the trouble over a decently prepped 5?
That's a brilliant idea... but is the head gasket itself supposed to keep the rings in? These 3.5HP head gaskets are super rare. There aren't many on eBay that I know of that fit...
I dunno what I'll do. Might call Carlson Motorsports and see if they sell a cast iron sleeve... hone it some more and tap it in.
