I wonder if the little piece of metal was one of the weights found in the governor gear...

It might be a chunk of crankshaft sensor.

The compression release on the cam is where I think it came from. Falling over jarred it loose is my guess

I took another look in the casing and found the culprit:

Can I use the valve out of a Honda 5hp or where can I get a replacement? Do you think that's why it's hard to pull?

Oh wow, that's not good at all. I've never seen that happen before. Did it hurt the cam?

I don't think it hurt the cam but don't really know how to tell.

ummm, we are all on the same page here that this is the LIFTER for the exhaust? (intake/exhaust lifters are identical) so you need a new LIFTER.

All your problems will be solved for the low low price of just $3 plus shipping and handling.

Also, id seriously look at the exhaust lobe of the crankshaft just to make sure its not scored up.

Please remember, some members only use a phone or tablet to view the forum, not to mention most of us are lazy to some degree; having to do more work just to view a pic isn't something all of us will do, which means they can't/won't help you...

For this & many other reasons, we prefer you upload pics to the forum server...

I don't know the way to upload to the forum server. The only two options I'm aware of is to inline link to hosted images (so it automatically shows in the post) or to provide a link. I tried to load the inline link through two separate image hosting services and they both failed. What's interesting is my previous images were fine until recently and now they're not showing as well.
