Should I go with a chain drive or a belt drive on this motor? What's the difference?

Get a 40 series. You'll be glad you did. More bottom end torque and an overdrive at the top. And with that 301 with a little help on the governor will put a smile on your face.

The motor is HERE!!! But I'm running into the issue you described the oil cap is in the way I removed the oil cap to see if it would clear and it still won't maybe I have it set on there wrong could you post a picture of how you have yours? It'd save me alot of time

You can use the backing plate but you have to do something about the rear dipstick. It gets in the way. I had to grind it down and seal it with JB weld. I did this before I put any oil in it. Worked out fine and is still working fine.

Did you get the engine yet? That ebay seller looks to have several 8hp for around that price. Free shipping. But he has no sells on his name yet. Meaning new ebayer. If you get yours i may buy one. Almost worth the chance to try and see what happens.

It's came early and it's brand spanking new I got mine for $74 but they can be had on buy it now for $80 ebay predator motors are legit and a go at this station!!

Here's what you can do....
Buy this stage 1 performance kit.

Then remove the crank side cover and remove the governor and its components.
Remove the dipstick and grind off the threads on the cover that hold it in. It's scary, but it'll work fine.
Thoroughly clean the inside opening of the dipstick hole (made easier since there was no oil in it yet...).
Use something to block the hole so you can fill it from the outside with JB Weld. I used a piece of rubber I cut to fit. Paper towel or anything else will work.
After it is cured, put the cover back on. The TC will now fit and you have your governor removed.
I did this a few months ago and everything is still working great.
By the way, install the jet and make your header before you start it for the first time. No gas, no mess!
