Purchased amusement style go kart. Has a locked up gx160. Will a predator 212cc power it. I still want to use the body, which is heavy. The tires are 18x 9.50-8. Also what clutch set up should I use?

Use the clutch that's already there, if you can. Pay close attention. Some concession karts us a GX with a reduction gearbox on them. If you eliminate this gearbox, you will have to re-engineer the entire derive system in order to have an appropriate ratio.

Got pics?

It does have a gearbox, will it bolt on the predator? I do have some pictures will post tomorrow. Having trouble postin pics, and telling a little about myself. First time building a kart.

I suspect the Honda has a special PTO shaft to facilitate the redux box.

So, you think Honda would use a different crank between the engines with a redux box & those without?

As discussed in this thread, the only difference is the clone shaft is 12mm (1/2") longer than the honda shaft. Apart from that, everything should be sweet...

I can attest to the fact that a Honda GX160 only has a 50mm (2") long shaft; as seen in the pics below, I had to make a 1/2" long spacer to mount a standard cent clutch.

Oh, & welcome to the forum

A predator will be even stronger than the GX160. The GX160 is rated at 5.5HP and the Predator 212cc at 6.5HP

The reduction box is a brilliant clutch system. I would keep it to avoid a lot of hassle

I think I will keep the reduction box. I pulled it off last night and it looked good. Less hassle is good. With the limited use of my right foot, as with my car I had to get a left foot peddle for throttle. It has dual hydraulic brakes on it, do they make a hand brake with a master cylinder for steering wheel. I was told by my local shop, that use of a hand brake would not have enough pressure to stop. Thank you welcoming me. Glad I came across this sight. Haven't picked up a wrench over a year and a half, sure feels good! Pictures to come.

Yes- I do think that. Not written in stone though, I haven't had one to look at. Pretty sure I read it somewhere, though.

Sure! Grab the handle/master cylinder assembly from a motorcycle!

The shaft on the honda is slightly bigger than the predator. Just enough to have a little play. About the thickness of a dime all the way around. The keyway is also narrower. I thought of using a thin steel sleave over shaft, and cutting a small slit in it for keyway. The bottom half of key hand file so it'll fit both keyways. It's not much that has to be filed. Any thoughts?

Could you take some detailed photo's for us? As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

More than likely, the honda shaft is 20mm whereas the clone is 3/4" (19.05mm)

You can get shims that will fix your problem

This one is for a bicycle seat pole but could be adapted to fit the PTO shaft

Thanks for the shims idea. Trying to download some pictures of kart when I first got it. I also got a handbrake and master cylinder. Thank you guys for the help.
