Hemi vs. Non-hemi???
It's your preference.

I see more destroyed hemi's. People don't pay attention to the piston to valve clearance, then add +.020" longer rod, .009" thick head gasket, a cam with more duration and lift. It only takes 1 time for that piston to touch a valve and it's done

For mostly stock performance it is my favorite. I have a stage 1 kit and it performs way better than a non hemi with stage 1. Plus I think it sounds better

Danny's diagnosis is correct. Looks like you broke off the head of a valve, and the piston pushed it right through the head. Buy a new engine. Your head is shot, the piston is toast, and the rod, crank, and cylinder bore all stand a good chance of being tweaked. Not worth trying to save much. Probably the carburetor and the pull starter.

Three ways that happened you sucked in a piece of somthing through the intake. the throttle butterfly screw falls out and can get sucked into the cylinder or the valve did it. But he said in earlier posts the valves pushrods were moving so?

If it broke in just the right way it could still move. He should look in the intake and exhaust ports to see of the valves are still there.

Or just pull the stupid head! I would not trust anything in that engine anyways.
No doubt that engine is toast. All of us might want to see what's wrong, but not everyone wants to pull an engine apart to see what happened. Some people just want to replace it and be done with it when something like this happens.

Not a good practice. How do you know what went wrong to stop it from happening again?

i aslo agree that its easier to just look through the intake and exhaust ports to see if your valve is stll ther or if theres something in the engine

also that hole in the chamber looks like a hand coming out of a grave
thats how you kw something went apocalyptically wrong
