I guess the lack of a belt on the .30-06 wasn't the dead give away at first glance? Least you didn't get hurt by that mix up. Kind of why I don't want to get .300 Blk, might mix up and put one of those through my AR and blow up the upper.

TL;DR. What do y’all use both for storage and haul-age?

Most of my steel GI cans (I must be old fashioned) are “storage only” and stacked (albeit not very well) and don’t move, but the same can as an ammo hauler isn’t the best. Got bulk loose cartridges in M19A1 (the ol .30 cal) and M2A1/M2A2 (the ol .50 cal) and a few PA-108s (Fat 50) cans. Packed with said loose ammo, no cardboard boxes, makes all three a heavy proposition and not so fun for taking to the range. Of course there’s LOTS of loose ammo in these cans. Got 800 rds of fife fife sechs in a .30/M19A1 before I said thats enough.

Do you, hypothetically speaking, “dip out” a few handfulls of cartridges from the storage cans for each pew pew into a temporary ammo box(es) or bag(s) or do you just take the whole can or better yet, use a can with cardboard boxes of ammo inside, no loose (much less weight)? Both I guess, keep cardboard boxes for the range and to better count what you intend to shoot and what you shot, “I shot ___ boxes today”

Lead Skittles packed loose makes maximum use of the space inside a can. Use this method only if you’re serious. 🤓

The common USGI .30 cal and .50 cal ammo “cans” are best termed “boxes.” Only the Russians and their satellites used true cans, which correlates to a one-use-only completely sealed “spam can” that you pierced and opened with an old fashioned see-saw knuckle-busting opener. The can is throwaway rubbish after that.

Plano boxes are okay but they close easily meaning you’re not really compressing the seal and thus they’re not airtight or watertight. They would be good for range transport though.

WM ammo cans for storage packed as they come in the box.
I just take a few boxes when I shoot.

When we shoot clay I just bring the 100 count boxes and throw it all out when were done.

Small caliber stuff in the yard is about 50 feet from storage.

Guess not. I remember having my mind on other things, which is not a good state to be in when at the range. It's why I prefer to go alone or if with a friend, one who does not need my attention.

We have a 2 axis wobbling clay chucker.
We invite friends when we take it to the range. Usual suspects every week. Sometimes someone will bring their nephews or brothers from out of town.
Its usually a good time. Some times its noobs and we teach them and they get the hang of it.
Since we all like the sport after the clays are done someone will bring out a different toy to pass around.
Garand, arisaka, tompson, saiga12, mini30, kraig 30-40... you know the cool stuff.
One day this kid came who swallowed the Tacti-koolaid. He was even dressed straight out of cabellas. Had an AR build he was bragging on and had every Pic rail filled with crap. He was going on and on. This suppressor is coo cool, you can even shoot it after being submerged...
He then took a bottle of water and dumped it down the barrel and pointed down range. He then proceeded to explode his upper.
Ego still not completely deflated he said that was the cheapest piece on this build and it must have been crap.

He never got invited again.
