I was looking through an auto parts flyer yesterday, saw an ad for "Polyvinyl Brake Lines". I was amazed. The ad states, "Stronger than standard, available in various lengths and diameters, no tools required".

Looking at the picture, they clearly use the normal, inverted flare. For "No tools required" I assume that's because you can't flare it. So much for an exact length! I hope it's flexible with a good bend radius. What do you do with excess length?

"Stronger than standard". Really? Stronger than steel? How?

What about heat, abrasion, and vibration resistance?

If any of you happen to know anything about this stuff, please enlighten me! Not only does a rustproof brake line sound really good to me on an automotive level, I think it's be a great thing for karting!

I wonder how well that stuff would hold up in cold climates? I assume it would snap like a twig, but it might be some special stuff....

It's plenty strong enough for a kart or buggy. They use the same material on air brakes, only they use larger dia.

None of you have yet listed what makes this better than steel. Most of the time rotted brake lines are those stupid "armored" lines, the coils wick up salt and water.

Use stainless steel ones and then there goes any bit of rotted brake lines

Freak- You into Tough Truck Challenge? Tell me more, I LOVE that stuff!

Kenny- You're bang, on, man...

Theo- Maybe so, but I very much doubt air brake systems ar under 2000-3000 psi like a hydraulic system is!

Keiran- You lost me, man- you're not saying sttel lines rust out because of incorrect fluid, are you?

toystory_4wd - They claim this will work in modified or sprint cars, and will take a burst of 1900 psi. I have never tried this stuff but have thought about it for simplicity.

Different fluid will make steel lines corrode faster like dot 5 and 5.1 and 4 specialy if you mix that crap with say dot 3

I did a little further research. The stuff I saw for sale was polyvinyl COATED.

But I'm still quite curious about plastic lines. Is this a good idea for kart stuff?
Tyler- Why were they banned?

The plastic brake lines I beleive where banned purely just due to the rate of failure. One snag or vibration against anything will wear holes.

Are they really the same thing? In a car you're playing with your life. In a paintball game you're playing with your "life".
