the axle keeps getting bent
lol i was looking at the pic and was like: hmmm the shaft looks bent...
install a pivot (two pillow block bearings) right behind the seat then run two shocks each side of the rear frame - done!

i had the same problem with my axel, i added a 3rd pillow block to the center and it hasnt happened since
the axle always bends out toward the wheel. i have 2 pillow blocks for each wheel. would one inthe center really help that much?

the second pillow block on each side doesnt look very well mounted (no offense). I would suggest simply taking the two outer pillow blocks and mounting them in the center. Also, maybe a thicker axle would solve your problem, looks like yours is 3/4"?

What, a weak suspension system with very little travel? it would be easier to just make a swing arm with the engine mounted on it.

Mounting the shocks depends on the stiffness and length of them. Best thing to do is build the swing arm and tack weld the shock mounts on and double your weight to see if it bottoms out. You don't want it too stiff because you are wasting travel. Shoot for the shocks being 80 to 90 deg. to the swing arm at full compression.

I'm in with Kaptain Krunch, for what it's worth. You definately need a thicker axle, with better support. I have a very heavy kart with a gx340 (big lump o' steel) and I pound the wee out of it (and myself), no suspension. Axle shows no signs of pain, it's 1 1/8". The pillow blocks are mounted solidly as far outboard as possible. Here, I dug up a pic. Cheers! Chris

Yes larger axle, the axle on my kart is 1 1/4" precision ground 4140 chromoly. Only cost me $60 AUD for a 1.2m piece cut to length.

i decided with the 1" axle too, but i didnt set up for a jackshaft thou. i concidered it and dropped it for weight issues (frame is 1/2" black natural gas pipe) its easy to weld but alittle heavy.

front solid, rear swing arm. leaving the option open to change the front to one a arm with shocks. but i think if i do go front suspention, ima look for some premade spindles, or make them to suit my buggy, and i will jack it up in the air. MORE ground clearance is good till ya flip it. i need a steering rack!

have u thought about moving the sprocket line to the outside of the frame? im using pillow block bearings on mine, and thats what im gonna try out.
Wheel==sprocket==frame mount==frame mount========wheel
