The last time I left points set "close enough" that 8 horse briggs would eat a recoil rope every other gas tank (it would always kickback HARD when starting and shutting down)

exactly how i've done it on all my other engines
you hold the wire between 1/8'' and 1/4 away from the spark plug and if it sparks its good

well when i was testing it i didnt see a spark then i touched it and it zapped me
i already treid starting it with starting fluid, it didnt work
it has great compression so im guessing its the coil

Doesn't sound like coil problem to me. Connect wire to plug and ground plug to engine then check for spark. Should see spark by rocking flywheel magnets back and forth under magneto laminations. Don't need to spin it fast. Try a different plug also.

but the engine should have started if it had a good magneeto
maybe its just worn down, like it still works but not enough to make a spark
ok well imabout to go to chirch so i'll try it later

Coils *usually* don't work a little bit.
They either work or don't work. There are few exceptions.
Try as I stated in post #52.
Also, spark plug may show a spark when removed from engine but when reinstalled may blow out during compression stroke. That's why it's always best to check with new correct plug. I believe plug would be Champion J8C. Avoid the resistance plug which would be indicated by the letter R or RJ8C.
I have had brand new plugs that would not run in higher compression engines but worked fine in low compression engines.

Heh, like I said Tyler :) The Briggs 2HP's just blow straight to the ground. Looking at the GX200 and 2HP's they seem to work the same way.
