I don't think anyone would be able to give you a quote for welding here. Call around and ask some of the businessed in your area

Well my last visit to the local machine shop was disappointing. They kept moving my custom tie rods back because I guess they weren't as important as the hot rod guys stuff. I was thinking 300-400$

Parts alone are going to run more than the $300 to $400. I don't think anyone will do all the work for free.

You could buy the square tubing, cut the parts yourself, then take them to a welding shop with the plans. They may have to fit a few pieces but at least the cutting would be done. Look online for a welding shop, not a machine shop. Some advertise on CL, too.

PSTDIFYGokarts?

I think he might want DIFSEGoKarts? (Do It For Someone Else Go Karts) Just kidding.

I do believe the OP should try and build the kart himself because
1. you have fun.
2. Learn allot
3. you know it's built right.

If you don't know how to weld then thats a good starting point (learn to weld). :cheers2:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just looked at the Arachnid. From what detail they let you see in the ad video and select photo's, pretty much no one is going to build one for you for $400.00.

Here's my question for you all who have these psychotropic prices in your minds for what things cost; in this case, an Arachnid. Here's the question; What makes you think that someone is going to Custom Fabricate anything for you for just /or Less Than the cost for the raw materials?

Here's a good example; Spydercarts list a very simple kit for sale that's built by Azuza; basic cart, comparable to the Black Widow. List price for the kit $669.00. That's for a kit that they've been building for years where they've spread the cost of research/design and the tooling over hundreds, if not thousands of them. So what makes you think someone is supposed to build something that's at least 4x more work for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of that really simple kit?

I've been in the same position as your machine shop because I've spent my career as a machinist. A lot of shop's will occasionally take on small charity cases, but they are at the back of the line. Business's Are In Business To Make Money. They do not work for free. If you want something like a cool cart, the most effective way to lower the cost is to do it yourself; but you have to be ready to do the whole thing yourself.

qtband, in a perfect world your idea would work; problem is, most shops won't touch a project that someone else started cutting the matl. There's too many people who don't/can't accurately read a tape measure, and most shops refuse to deal with the mess that results.

Again, unless you know/ are related to someone who will do the work for next to nothing for you,It Is Going To Cost You. If you see it premade for "xxxx" amount, buy it. As a loose rule, having it custom made is probably going to start at 3~5 times that price. I'm sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but that's the way it is. The sooner you learn and understand that basic concept, the less disappointment you are going to have to suffer thru.

Now, if you don't want to/ can't fabricate your own chassis, you do still have options;

1] Find a cart/ chassis used that would be adaptable to your needs/wants.

2] Find a kit/ project that someone else has gotten bored with and/or abandoned.

If you find it for sale on EBay, Craigslist, et al, that's a totally different story than having it custom built for you. It's whatever the market will bear. But that other old rule applies as well; Let The Buyer Beware.

Sorry about the rant; it's just that it needed to be said (and I know I'm going to have to repeat it again in the future).

Fair enough. Just trying to provide an option. The best would be to buy yourself a welder like 4x4 said. It'd be a real DIY kart then.

My thoughts, your words. I don't think you need to be particularly apologetic, either. Life often isn't ideal, and sugar-coating things often misleads or fails to drive a point home.

That said- I would not ordinarily suggest a frame as a first fabrication project. Personally, I would not trust my precious behind to somebody's first welds. It's a heck of a way to die. And let's not forget- we're not discussing a 30 MPH fun kart with an anemic little industrial engine. We're talking about something with enough potential to kill.

My advice is to find a chassis that will serve your purpose. Bring it up to par, have fun with it. Pick up a relatively inexpensive welder, and build some stuff that won't kill you if it breaks. Gain experience, start modifying things to suit you. When you are halfway accomplished at welding/fab, then build your dream.

I should have caught that point; You're 110% correct about the safety issue. Road rash is something you don't want to experience; at the very least it hurts like H***. At the worst..... lets just say it can be terminal.

The goal of this hobby is supposed to be "Have fun:wai: Without the hospital stay!!!".:cheers2:

Just "Throwing A #" without the facts to back it up just causes more of the same type of problem that had me go off. The next person who comes along who, thru no fault of their own, doesn't know any better, is going to think that "#" is factual, and try to base their decisions/ plans/ dreams on it. Then, when the real world beats them over the head for not having a clue, they're going to be pissed. At the very least they're going to blame you; what's a lot more likely is that they'll remember that they Read It On The Web Site. Guess who will take the blame? All they're going to remember is that "That site lied to me, that site was wrong, that site can't be trusted!"

Sorry that I stomped on your toes (then again, maybe not), but you have to remember that we have new members logging on every day from all around the world, many of whom know very little. When they ask a question, this forum try's to give them straight, honest facts. That means we don't just pull blue sky #'s out of nowhere and pass them off as fact. It also means that when I see or hear that happening, intellectual integrity dictates that I have to correct the problem; forcefully if necessary. It also means that if I don't know the answer, I'm not going to "fake" an answer just so I can have more posts with my name on them.

If I had a dollar for everytime someone fed me a line of S*** because they didn't want to admit they didn't know either, I'd be able to go on a nice vacation

And the type of person that REALLY lights my fuse are the one's who intentionally give out wrong information.

Now for the big question; should I check my blood pressure.......

I think buying a used chassis and rebuilding/ restoring it would be a better option for you.
If you go the ody route, speak to Bighead on this forum. He really knows his stuff.

I put aftermarket a arms and shocls on my raptor.

My brother welds but i didnt want to ask him to invest alot of his time in building one from the ground up.
i could probably fab a way to put the raptor arms and stock shocks on the front of the fl250 and figure out something for the rear.
