Since you asked for opinions, and you did not exclude me, I will share my opinion with you.
I am convinced that the original carburetor, or a stock appearing replacement with mixture adjusting screw will be more reliable, easier to tune and supply all the air and fuel you need for that engine.
If you want to futz around and try to make the engine run right, try to guess what jets to install, ask people who are not really involved in your project what you should do to fix it, then by all means , buy a motorcycle carburetor built in China for your lawnmower engine.
If you want a fun, reliable ride, rejet the original carb.
If you want a great performance aftermarket carb, install a Tillotson. No need to rejet them, simple screws for HI and LO adjustments.
Have a great day.

hey thanks for the info i never really liked the stock carbs there alright once you get a jet, filter and exhaust they run alright but if I wanted serious power I would swap the carb but i like the idea of using an adjustable carb like a tillotson. and you have a good day.

I can tell you from first hand experience on a modified 196 and a modified predator 301 that aside from a 2 or 3 mph on the very top end, the rejetted stock carburetor works excellent. On both a bike and a kart, I have removed the Chikuni and put the up jetted stocker back on. Stronger acceleration, better idling, and much easier starting on vehicles that already went fast enough were not worth the trade off for a couple of mph up top. An area where very little of ones riding time is spent. You are going to spend a good amount of money on something that gives limited returns. Build your engine, and then play around with the jets. With that many cc's you're going to probably be in the .042" to the .046" size.

Gopowersports.com did have a "bored blueprinted stock" carb for the 420, made by Tillotson.
It is already jetted pretty rich, has adjustable idle mixture, and they used to (Not sure they still do) have a high speed power adjustment screw in the bottom of the bowl, like an old Tecumseh carb. They are a simple bolt on, they are rich enough to start without choke, and they can be adjusted without taking them apart. I paid about 30 bucks for the one on my 420, about eight years ago.
I have piles of 2 stroke engines, so I keep Tillotson diaphragm carbs on the shelf. 2 strokes are really picky about mixture at high and low speeds because the fuel carries the engine oil. Tilly carbs have HUGE adjustment ranges so the driver can actually change the hi and lo mixture while on the track. No jets to fool around with. If you think it needs to be richer at WOT, just turn the HI screw out a half a turn and try it. Simple, and probably les expensive than a slide carb. Check Ebay for used snowmobile carbs. You can find a genuine Tilly for 30 to 50 bucks.
If you see used chainsaw carbs on Ebay, they are probably too small for your engine.

You can use a 34mm carb and it will probably work fine, but it's a decent bit oversized for a stock head and cam. A 28mm would probably give a less touchy, more linear throttle response.

Honest question, is the 459 all that different from a GX390?
