They both had cast iron cams. There are no decompression mechanisms on it. Unless they "Integrated" it into the cam when they made it. But that wouldn't make any sense, seeing it would be on everytime it was running. These small engine probably didn't generate enough compression to need it.

There was a decompression mechanism on my 3.5HP's plastic cam however...

Yes, plastic cam. Some Clones come with plastic cams also.

In Clones (and most likely Briggs engines), they can last quite a long time, longer than cast iron ones. As long as you don't put in super heavy springs or other things that put strain on it that was not made for, they're great.

They have an onboard decompressor. You can clearly see it when you remove the cam.
