Here is a bunch a pics my of our home my wife is building in the Philippines. Although the wife and I are not there doing to work. It's still a big part of our life. The wifes family home is right across the street. We bought this property about 5 years ago. We then built the smaller unit for vacation home. Since then we decided to do a add on and make it much bigger with view to Masinloc Bay. We were strict about not cutting any of the trees. We wanted it like a jungle look. Also wanted it super secure being American and all. There is no kidnapping in this area but it is not out of the picture. This is on the Island of Luzon in the northern part of the Philippines. The problem parts on southern Muslims for the most part.

The Philippines have 7,100 islands or so that make up the country. Are house is about 3 hours from Manila driving time. Masinloc bay is protected area so wild life is great. Super cool reefs that are making full recovery from TNT fishing. The cities in the Phillipines I do not care for. But out in the provance is very relaxing.

My hats off to these workers. The work bare feet in super hot weather for pennies on the $ compared to the USA. Primitive tools as you can see. It's amazing what one Filipino can do with a machete. Total cost for complete rebuild is little under $5000 not including breakfast and lunch daily for the workers. Little over a month to do the work. Should be done next week.

Lots of pic and sorry for that. But thought it would be cool to show what we do with are other time. My wife spends about 2 months a year in the Philippines. I spend one month every few years. Never met more friendly people in my life each time I go. It’s the land of smiles for sure. Even though most of them are going thru hell poverty. This is something you would never see where I live.

What I like about the Philippines the most? Nobody is in a hurry.

The first few pics show the pad before we started the add on. Also the sister house next door right on the bay. I got more pics of that later.

Okay I lied so more pics. This is my wifes family property. When I walk across the street this is what I see and my wifes family home. It cost about $20,000 to build this home. And it's really nice inside with marble and all. Could have built much less but we went extras with it. It's also much bigger than the pic looks like. Has another wing behind it.

When I first met my wife they were really bad with dogs. They were all skinny and fend for themselves type. Most philippine families are like this with dogs. Guard dog only they were used for. My first few visits I was culture shocked on dog treatment.

My wife sends stupid amounts of money to the Philippines. My only requirement is they feed the dogs with dog food good. They send me pics of the fat dogs all the time. These dogs are true gaurd dogs at night though. No joke!!! They know who is who and who is not who. Amazing really.

Not even going to post pics of the sad pics dog I took. In the city it's just crazy with the strays. It's so sad it's not even funny. Nobody cares and there is no animal control or anything like that.

Anyway back to the house. Those are Mango, jack fruit and Bannas around and behind the house. We own the property but forfiet the mango rights for 10 years. This gives the famer time to replace his 3 trees on the property. It is well know that Zambales provance has the best Mangos in the world.

cool house build!

re: dogs - I have a photo series I took that I call "The Street Dogs of Guatemala". My friends that I visit over there have names for lots of them, and the nice ones they make sure get some scraps. Totally different, you're right, w/o animal control.

Yah it was culture shock to me as well. Poverty is the city was very sad as well.

This place is called hundred Islands. It's about 30 minutes from are place. You can rent your own island with house or bar island. The snorkeling here is unreal. Pick a island and be dropped off for a day.

I love the price changes in different countries. Here in the US and especially California a house like that would cost millions!

When I married my wife 8 years ago she was making $100 a month working 6 days a week 10 hours a day.

The property on the bay has been owed by family for generations though.

None waterfront property is dirt cheap though. You are right in Oregon this would be about 500,000 on bay property.

This is how you get around in the philippines. If traveling best to hire driver while your there. $50 and gas he will drive you anywhere for $100 in aircon minivan.

These are called Philippines trikes. They are cheap but more than the Philippine Jeepney. The jeepney are made from left over WW2 Jeeps. Well the original ones were. They know make them from scratch to look like the original jeepneys.

When you see them all colorfull like that? This is like Hotrods for them. They do not restore muscle cars. They restore Jeepneys. Some of the private jeepneys can be really nice show condition.
