Welcome to the Orange Blast Build!!

This is my first post on the forum and wanted a place to keep track of the build as well as show like minded individuals my progress.

Plus, I just love the discussion!

Okay, onto the actual Kart.

I picked up this kart on Facebook market place this past Saturday. I have NO idea what the frame manufacture is. But none the less, I still love it.

The AD and the day I brought her home!





(20 Apr 19) I immediately got her on the table and started disassembly.



After disassembly I started soaking parts, salvaging what I could and cleaning everything. As well as getting my list together for the stuff I needed to buy!





(22 Apr 19)And then I got a phone call from the guy that I bought it from. Apparently, whoever he bought it from originally had a TON of parts that I could go and retrieve. So, I got in the car and retrieved said parts.



All together, about 30 tires, half are with wheels. 5 seats, a body, and a stand!!











Was a very awesome score indeed.

After my collection of parts, I put my list together and ordered about everything I will need right now to get this thing running along with a built-ish motor.

I'll be using a 196cc Clone that is coming off my minibike that I previously built. All that is done to the motor so far is 18 lb valve springs, a mikuni 22mm and an exhaust.

But I have a ton coming for the motor... So stay tuned!

(24 Apr 19) Ordered parts, ran to the paint shop to have them mix up my color (went with a single stage job) and when I got home, pulled her out of the garage and started stripping ALL the paint off the frame to prep for my new paint!











(25 Apr 19)As of right now, the frame is fully painted up and is drying. Now the wait for parts to come in!!

Haha I know right!? I will weed out what is no good and then put them on the shelf. Course the garage does need to be cleaned of other things too.

This is the mini bike I built that the donor motor will be coming off of. It will get a smaller motor so the kids can use it.

Personally I'm not a fan of the body,
but I do like the chassis a lot
So I hope you intend to show some more orange chassis when you're done

The body is going to the dumpster. Ha! I am right there with you, not a fan of it.

There will be a little bit more orange, from here out it will consist of some accent pieces. Going with a Orange/Black theme.

The bike was a ton of fun to build! Was my first excursion to making a swing arm adapt to fit a minibike. Will probably end up throwing a stock predator on it for the time being.

Just one thing that I had noticed you said about the engine you are using is that you put in 18lb valve springs and did nothing else. Did you remove the governor? If you did, I wouldn't use that engine until you get a billet con rod for it.
With the stock springs and governor removed, the valves would begin to float at about 5000RPM and limit RPM that way. With the stiffer valve springs and no governor, the engine can rev much more than that, putting immense stresses on the rod which could then come out the block and say hi. And that is something that you do not need. A billet flywheel would also be good, but a rod is essential.

If the governor is still in there, then the new springs you put in are actually useless at the moment

Thanks!! I have always loved this color.

The day I got this motor, the governor was removed when the springs went it. Forgot to mention that.

But the parts coming in for the rest of the build are:
- Billet connecting rod
- Billet flywheel
- Hi-Compression Head
- .010 Head Gasket
- 3910X Spark Plug
- Mod 2 Cam
- Inferno Fire Clutch (12T)

Plus a ton more for the chassis and little stuff to get everything cleaned up and properly put together.

Haha I had originally done that with the thread.. A Moderator made it the way you are seeing it now... Said I couldn't post consecutively. I had already started on it last weekend and was trying to create the thread to bring everyone current, that's why originally I had all the separate posts back to back.

But as far as the chassis goes, I have no clue. I am still searching to find out what it is. But Ike's is close, just not the same.

Thanks Sid! Have any idea what the frame could be? From what I can tell, it is not a home made frame. And the only number I found is "691".

CIKFIA homologation numbers look different (like 12/CH/20)

kinda reminds me of a coyote chassis, but I can't even put my finger on the reason for that.
I know no coyote quadruple rail chassis at all.

It's certainly a straight chassis and it's slightly biased
maybe because it's intentionally a four stroke chassis,
maybe it's for mainly turning one way..

You checked the bearing hangers as well?
homoloagation and serial numbers like to hide
(inside of spindle brackets, on the bearing hangers, underside of the cross rails... etc.)

After a good filler job and some paint you won't be able to find it any longer..

Parts!

Through all the craziness of working at the Airshow we have going on right now, I was able to get to open some of my parts that came in last night. All are accounted for. Motor tear down/accent painting/and more parts coming later this week!

So far, BmiKarts, OMBwarehouse, Gopowersports, and Ebay.

Did a lot of searching for the best prices on each site and then grabbed everything.

It might! I am just not a huge fan of the style. Even though I am 99% sure this kart raced the dirt oval in it's past life, that will not be what she will do when I am done with her.

Thinking about fitting different body panels to her down the road.

A small Nassau panel is all I'd add

I'm a huge fan of early 70s triangular nerf bars (like you see on the Yamaha RC100)
but those are unlikely to fit your nerf bar mounts

I'd still keep it as "skinny" as possible wouldn't even really add side pods
An oval number plate to the current nerf bars maybe to break up the side view. *shrugs*

I like that idea! May make some sheet metal panels for the sides and rivet them on to clean it up. Can have my wife make up some vinyl numbers to slap on there as well.

I am definitely wanted to keep it as naked as possible.
