Cool site, happy to join in the fun and start my first cart project. New member today.

This is my side of the road special, barn fresh. Needs everything, but is just full of potential. I think this is a 1960's Rupp Chapparel with aftermarket side nerf bars. The original wheels are two piece aluminum and steel. The tires are GoodYear Blue Streaks cracked beyond use. If anyone can confirm the year or model that would be good to know for future reference.

Oh yeah, $65.00 seemed reasonable enough.

I was given this Ariens chipper thing. It runs after a new plug and coil. After some use it proves worthless as a chipper around here due to the flail arm chipper design. I think this is just a free engine to get started with. I'll have to be on the look out for a 5 Hp or 7 Hp and use this just to get the project started.

Found a long lost brother to my frame. This one a 1966 Chapparall that has been completely redone. Its good to see the potential, I wonder if I could just trade and go racing already...nah, no way am I missing out building one.

Let me say this about old school wheels. They suck taking apart just to get at the tubes! The tires must have rusted through the rubber on the wire in the beads and rusted in the bead on the rims. Never seen anything like in my life! Based on the cracks and hammer marks, I'm not the first to curse these old rims to death to get at the tubes. Anyone seen 11x4.0-5" tires? The old set of dead cracked and burnt out Goodyears has got to go.

I picked up a set of 10x4.5-5 Bridgestone race tires. No way these are going to fit. They've got to back up on ebay. I've posted the old school rims if anyone's looking for some.

Out in the garage
Seat back squared off at the top leads me to believe this is a Rupp Lancer GT. I could be wrong, though. I thought Chaparral's had the wide steering hoop, too.

Either way, nice score!

Some new 5" rims. Used on ebay, but new to me. The fronts are wider than I can fit on the spindle. Had to turn the bearing seats in about 1/2" deeper. It was either this or mess with cutting and welding in new spindles. At least this way, the frame is still stock.

I hope that I never need to remove these from the rims, man what a fight getting them install. Looks sharp I think.

Got the 3hp Briggs on there. The mount has the engine sitting way back behind the axle, maybe this is for chain adjustment...? Also got a free clutch, 15 tooth. Heres a mock up waiting on rear wheel hubs.

Located some 3 bolt wheel hubs on ebay for a 1" axle. Well no luck on the bolt pattern matching up with the rims. Also just not wide enough, rims hit the drum brake. I had to machine the diameter of old hubs, made up some 1" thick spacers. I had them TIG welded on by a friend. Just completed the finish turning with them bolted onto a 1" shaft, so they are very true to the bore. Wheel studs will be the next step.

The tires went on with my two bare hands, no tools. Just set them on cardboard on the garage floor and pushed them on. No damage to the tires or rims.

Well that wasn't so bad. Drilled and c'bored on the mill, left the holes a letter smaller, and tapped the holes using the bolts. Perfect.

Looking killer friend. Keep going at it. Those wheels are nice. I like them alot. Reminds me of the old school wheels. Good choice for they still look vintage.
