Old kart and an old guy

Good evening, I got an old kart for the kids to tear apart, and we can rebuild during this time of no school. The only issue I am having is that the gentleman I got it from said once started, it would run wide open. I have attached some pictures of what I am currently dealing with. I am trying to figure out how to run the throttle cable, and for some reason, the choke and I would assume speed have nothing attached to them. If anyone has any pictures or diagrams oh how the cables should look I would greatly appreciate it. The engine is Briggs & Stratton fun power 5hp.

Well, I got bored and took the carb apart and cleaned it all out. Found out the choke does not pop out from the carb as I had previously thought. Well, on the first pull, it fired right up, and it smoked a little bit. The issue I am having now is when the choke is on, it will fire right up, but when I tried to turn it off, it wanted just to take off. I may just say forget this one and slap the predator 212 I got with it.

Man, I need to find the parts list for that. I am missing a few parts and springs, and I think that would solve my issues. The one I have has the throttle cable running to the bottom on the engine while in the video, the throttle cable is on top.

So got tired of the B&S and used the predator 212 and purchased the throttle cable and pedal. What information I am looking for is how to attach the cable in the picture or the throttle rod. I am up for almost anything besides welding since I do not have one at the moment.

Off hand....The throttle has a hole or at least make a hole where it is on the end, put a small screw, rod or the like and clamp the cable end around the end of the rod with the pipe clamp you have there...(The through rod stops the clamp from running off the throttle rod.)

As for the Frame, youll need some bicycle cable stops, from a brake or shifter cable assembly, use that to secure the end of the cable sheath you have in the pic... Pieces might metric for a securing nut on the back side...

Another Idea, is to drill a hole through the center of a bolt with a couple of matching nuts. Use that as a cable stop.. (If you have a lathe this is a quick job, A little more so drilling by hand via a drill press or longer by a hand drill...)

Took brake cable parts off my son's old bike. Fired the motor up and it ran. Pressed on the gas and the hose clamp flew off 😅. Going to see about more clamps I got some place. Also when I pulled the throttle linkage it didn't want to rev higher.

Worked like a charm. Got it to start and idle. Issue now is that when you hit the throttle it bogs down and dies. I have cleaned the carb and I just cleaned the foam air filter.

Any black smoke when it bogs down or fuel pooling in the carburetor? What does the spark plug look like when you remove it? Is the 212 stock or have you done any upgrades to it? Its sounds like a fueling issue whether it be too little or too much the question is which...? Play with the choke to find out if it gets better or worse and that will lead you in the right direction at least. Choke open/close SHOULD follow the same direction as fuel open/close on that, I could be wrong as I've never actually seen one but it looks to be the same carb as all Honda clone motors.

I got it used and from what I can tell Al they did was take off the governor. I will fiddle with the choke this weekend and see what it does. I have pulled the carb and fuel in the def flowed out without an issue. If the key was marked I could tell if it was OEM or not.

Used. I pulled the old plug, and it was dark, but I don't know how long it was in the engine. I also moved the choke all the way around, and it wanted to roll, but as soon and I gas it more throttle, it died. I even unhooked the oil sensor(like some have suggested on another post).

Here are the pics of the carb and plug. The plug is only a few days old. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

The gov is disabled... That will spell disaster if that is left in its current state... The gov gear inside will potentially explode if high enough rev achieved.
With the gov connected and setup right, it leaves the butterfly open aways enough to start right...
Direct connection causes to close further that if it had been done factory(its missing the small thin spring) ... and thus it doesnt start right..
You could cock open the throttle a little and let it back when it starts... but it kinda make it go quick and potentially a runaway could occur..
Let see what the other say on the direct connection of the throttle..
All my engines have gov in.

Stupid non adjustable carbs... into the bin with it! Lol. Some ports in the carb could be clogged and giving you a hard time, when you say you cleaned it did you tear it right apart as in removing the pilot jet under the idle screw also? But seriously these non adjustable carbs are a nightmare I replace them right away with cheap (adjustable) ones from Amazon unless they say Keihin on them (then I get a rebuild kit), those are the only ones for these motors I feel are worth the trouble.
