old engine

I got an old engine and i don't know what it is and there is only some model type code numbers, can i identify it with that?? i'll try to get some pics..

99% sure it's a Briggs. And yes it's probably a decent engine. Get some pics.

SAE 30 detergent 40°F and above.
SAE 10w30 detergent below 40°F.

Check for sheared flywheel key.
Possibly valve(s) not sealing.

If its an adjustable carb and you don't mind losing the governor, sure. Play with that updraft for a while and you will learn to love it. In any event an air filter won't hurt anything.
