I got this trolling motor for free.....

Now...it's missing the deck mounting hardware....so....I could pursue making one....HOWEVER.....here's another outside of the box idea.....

A small boat...powered by a lawnmower battery.....with a rudder and a line release controlled by servos from a cheapy Radio Shack vehicle......

So....basically...the motor would be locked straight...with a servo controlled rudder....to basically keep it in a generally straight line....and guide it to either a baited hole....or a good structure area.....at which point...the second servo would release the fishing line being towed out.....

Just for safety and simplicity sake...the boat would be attached to a deep spool reel and be reeled back......that way...a dead battery is no problem.....

The big advantage of this is ....using live bait like whole bluegill....you might be able to chunk em way out there....but the spank they take when they get there....either takes a lot out of them....or kills em.....

Trade the trolling motor for a pair of oars for your jon boat. Then you can go along. Or. make a mount. Should take about 5 minutes.

I've seen guys tie a balloon to their line with a slipknot to let the wind take it way out. It works, but only with an offshore wind.

Lol.....I already have two trolling motors and outboards for the jonboat.....so...no need there.....I could take the jonboat.....go out to the spot....drop off the bait....and go back to shore....but....then why not just anchor out there??????

No....this isn't as crazy as it may seem at first glance....there are some advantages to fishing from the shore.....one being...the bank does not drift or go up or down......

Edit:....and I could do this in areas where launching a jon boat isn't feasible......

This is really frustrating. I hope to pass this damage. However, though many people will take such things for granted, a ton of work goes into making car paint such as car SPAMMY LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN -- SPAM SPAM SPAM

hmm... to fish from shore... my friend is getting into drones, not the little toy ones, the big hobbiest ones, capable of carrying substantial weight, we were contemplating drone fishing, to use 50' of line or so with a lure off the drone, cruise along 3 or so mph 30-40' off water trolling, when the drone gets a bite it would visibly jerk down, hence the need to have good distance from water... at that point throttle up to set hook and yank fish out of water, then deliver to shore... the electronics will be water sealed, still must figure out a floation device in case of disaster...

How about just having the drone carry the line from a rod out in a way that the line just drops off the drone if it gets a big tug? Then on top of that if the drone fails in some way and is still on the line, you can just reel it in.

not a bad plan... we'll see how things go as soon as he's done building the drone, it's pretty close, but i think he might have drone ADD, like he gets a bunch of it done, then it sits for weeks, i'd have that thing going in a day...

My neighbour has/had a drone. I say had as he was flying it over the water at the beach and there was a change in the wind that resulted in it going for a swim  It wasn't a toy as I'd seen it flying around at home. It was programmed to return and hover at a certain altitude if there was an issue.

New parts to get it going again are going to cost approx $1500 :smiley_omg: The frame was OK buy the receiver, batteries, controllers and motors have been binned.

Twin rudders, actuated by one servo. The motor in between them....
Do it Doug...... Cool idea....

Yeah....that's close to what I was thinking.....except......I was thinking one.....and....for a couple of reasons.....#1: trolling motors work much better pulling than pushing....and will travel in a much straighter line...(which is going to be what I want anyway) .....so motor pulling up front ....one rudder in the rear.....big slow turns are fine......

The other reason to put the motor up front......it's going to be pulling a fishing line.....I want to keep that as far away from that prop as possible......

I'd need at least one more servo....to active an "on/off" switch for the motor.....

Then ......it might be nice to have a release for the line...but not necessary....as a downrigger clip and a good tug at the desired time would work too.....

But I would probably want that 3rd servo...., to maybe do some other things....like drop a buoy to mark a spot.....then drop chum at that spot.....

Of course....that motor is overkill....maybe I'll just get a fan blade and make a remote control airboat.....
