A small update. I rejet the carbs to suit a UNI filter and straight pipes. Went from
17.5 pilot, 60 mids, 132.5 mains to
20.0 pilot, 60 mids, 145 mains

I wanted to change the mids too, but there is some contension over whether they really are mid jets or a "starter jet" as it shows in a labelled diagram of the carbs. Ah well, the expert says it will be fine like that.

Goes to show how out of touch I've been with this stuff. Your kart looks slick! It's come a long way! Can't wait to see it go. I think a kart that might give you a run for your $$$ in loudness department (from the driver's seat) is the old techumseh 2-stroke kart posted here somewhere that had the exhaust pointing straight up, right behind the seat! It's on the DIY forum somewhere... I'm too lazy to find it!

THAT WAS MY FIRST KART! Lol. That was hilarious, glad somebody remembered it.

But no, this is 10x louder. :roflol: Maybe from the drivers seat they might be similar, but overall...

*EDIT* pic from my photobucket

It used to have the stack at ear level, but I cut it down so it would fit in the car. Hehehe

Thanks Jerry.

I think they're the round ones.

The "small round" ones. The pilot jets were different. More like this

I thought the jets would be bigger, they're REALLY small.

Yeah, Those 5 jets are main jets. I run the large round in the kart and the same style pilot as you in the kart and dragster. The main in the dragster is another story...

I liked that thing! It buzzed around the yard really well! Who can forget it?!?!

*****UPDATE*****

things left to do on the kart:
Finish gear linkage
Chain tensioner mounts
Throttle and clutch cables
Brake line (anyone know a good place in syd?)
Wiring (loom modified, just needs to be put in buggy)
Clean fuel tank
Get a set of air filters
Exhaust supports
Shorten the chain (need a half link)

Fill up with fuel
TEST DRIVE!

Also just sold the fuel tank from the bike for $250, so the engine and brakes have now cost me $400. Definitely the way to go.

Mikuni jet's are designed to have a velocity stack like hole drilled for the jet. Filling with solder would somewhat eliminate this and make you look REALLY cheap lol.

I am very cheap :D I never knew mikunis jets were like that, so drilling them in anyway is bad? Oh well...

Well I used the combined experience of pretty much everyone on the GS500 message board to choose these jets, and there is still adjustment while keeping the same jets. I just hope it's correct. GS-500F's are jetted lean for the stock airbox and stock exhaust, so straight pipes and high flow uni filters make it run extremely lean, to the point of melting pistons. Hence much larger jets.
