Sorry to be that guy that only puts a post to ask for help, but I have tried to fix this issue for too long without assistance.

Two pictures are of my off-road kart for amusement and critique. The question is in regards to the throttle picture.

The engine is a Honda clone (Champion 6.5 HP). I have no clue how the throttle lever works. I took it off to see how to set up my remote throttle (which in the end, I am going to do similar to a thread here where the cable sheath is attached to the side of the air cleaner and the wire attached to the end of the throttle). When I put it back together, the throttle lever doesnt work.

Can somebody explain to me how the throttle lever is connected to the carberator such that when you put the lever to a high speed, it opens up the carb?
(some notes on the diagram, air cleaner and gas tank removed for clarity)

Thank you for any help (I started this project in summer 2007 :( .

With the engine off and when you move the throttle lever the carb butterfly will not move. The butteryfly will only open when the engine is running due to the governer hookup.

I have diligently searched this forum for the answer before posting, all of those links are regarding a remote throttle hookup.
I am asking how the engine throttle controls the butterfly valve. I only see it as connected to a 'control arm' via a spring (as in the picture).

i have the same problem as you, but i just got some stiff wire, and ran it straight from the butterfly lever, to the throttle lever. works fine as a bodge up, but would like to know how it is suppost to work, and fix it, as this setup doesnt allow the governor to work, and i want the governor.

plz could someone be so kind as to take a pic???

oh, and by the way, kart looks sweet!

what fits into that hole on the plate that you took off?

circled in red
looks nice, but for an off road cart, its going to jar the poo out of your back, without a suspension your gonna be hurting, hope you have a chiropractor on call. not to mention, handling at speed seems like it would be rather tough (altho, it has a small motor so top speed probably isnt very high huh) what with the tires bouncing off the ground when hitting bumps. a friend of mine had a great idea, he made what i can only call collars for the axle, these rode in a slot that was looped at the top, and above the axle he had a spring, this helped to keep the wheels on the ground, if you need i can draw a picture of it. it was simple, and it worked great

Felix - Everything that is shown on the motor, came with the motor. It was bought from Costco (Price Club)
- I bought the wheels from Forest City Surplus, or Cambridge surplus. Approx $30 each for the rears and $15 each for the front. Rims attached, CAN$.

Squat - in that hole goes the bolt which holds the air cleaner on. Air cleaner was removed for clarity so someone could assist with my question.
- Regarding the bouncing, I agree but where I plan to use it isnt a gravel pit. It is trails through a bush. Thus, would want a slightly lower speed. I can easily change the gear ratio due to the jackshaft. Also, if you look at the pic, you can see that the rear axle is attached to the jackshaft/swingarm and it is ready to put shocks in (attached to the rear engine cage and the rear axle).

Cyo, that's a very interesting rearend setup you have, I had to stare at the pic a minute, to understand that you have the swingarm BOLTED in place of some springs, and that the suspension does indeed pivot on the jackshaft. This is something I was debating using in the kart I'm building. You'll have to let us know how well that works after you've got some time on it.

I'm afraid those linkages don't make much sense to me, but what I will do later is shoot out to the garage and have a look at my GX340's throttle setup. Maybe it'll be similar enough?

Let ya know what I find. Cheers- Chris

Okay, had a look. On my GX340, there's a spring that goes from the BACK end of the governor arm, to the BACK end of the throttle lever. This is what makes it so that moving the throttle lever left causes the throttle linkage rod to move to the right. My 4hp clone (no idea if it clones a Honda, Tec, or B&S) has a similar arrangement, and my actual lawnmower with an 18-horse B&S VTwin is similar, too. Do you have a place to connect such a spring? I'm sorry I couldn't get a clear picture. I took off the aircleaner, but I would've had to remove the fuel tank and a few other things to get it all in the shot... But the more I look at your pic, the more I'm convinced your black spring is not connected correctly. Cheers- Chris
