Now that the Poboy has taken a vacation from pressing new members from filling out profile locations, we have a whole rash of new members and nobody knows where anyone else is from.

Next it'll be members with attitudes and chips on their shoulders...(funny, almost always, they don't fill out profile locations either.)

I noticed the missing location info..
yet I still miss the "missing" of it..
or to put it in legible words...

true... but yet location wasn't of much importance to answer the question.

Don't get me wrong any info given is an info we can potentially use to answer a question,
at least more precisely or quicker.

But if I had to pick the single most important thing that we need to ask for since it's not present with the initial question...
it's PICTURES not LOCATION.
(and I don't mind much asking for those)

Anyways, I get your point Doug and I agree that it does have a valid core somewhere deep down inside;
but again, I can't recommend a shop in Texas anyways for obvious reasons, or in California for that matter..
let them do their legwork to find a local source then.

Now, Is it better? Nope, it's not!
but is it worse? Frankly; I don't see much difference at all!

I'll admit that part of it is selfish on my part. It does help in sourcing parts sometimes, and occasionally members get together and would not know they were that close except for the profile location.

It's funny that a new member will say: "Hello, new here (like we don't know) from Anytown USA ", then proceed to give us their life story, but not spend 2 minutes filling out a profile.

Like 50 posts later we're going to remember where they're from.

But another reason I like to know is that there are ways to talk to people in certain places that will tickle their funny bones, while the same thing either won't be comprehended or even possibly offensive when directed at some in certain places.

Maybe with your OCD about location you should petition the forum to make it a mandatory box during the registration process.
:mad2:

Many forums do, and this forum has the largest amount of members who don't have a location of any of the forums I'm on or have been on.

Robert has chosen not to do that.

I have cruised this forum for a year or so and asked for help selecting an engine and yes I was badgered over my location. I am a member of several forums usually involving RC and I can honestly say this is the only forum I have ever seen where members where beat to death over there location. Location doesn't matter could you honestly tell me what my closest go kart store is any better then I can since I live in the area and you live in Texas. Most people shop online for parts so local service is not that big for sourcing parts. Some people do enjoy not letting everyone know where they live, the only reason I posted my info was because I felt like I wouldn't get help if I didn't let you all know where I lived. It made a new member feel almost unwelcome and ready to skip to somewhere else for info, to be honest with you all from what I have seen since joining this forum it is a wonder we still get new members. I am all good with poking fun at a person for wanting to add multiple jack shafts to a kart or the guy who just doesn't want to listen. I have seen several times where people asked for help and the first reply was give me your location or some other crappy remark (usually from the same few members each time)which would make the average newbie think screw this I'm out. Like I have said before I cruise around here still but don't post a lot, I have seen it get somewhat better in comparison to when I first joined.
I will now end my rant.

Yes I have noticed Many new members have not filled out a location, and....
I DO NOT LIKE IT.
Instead of it just being there and having understanding, It comes up later and it takes questions and 2 or 3 posts.
I try to tell a guy "Well try driving it and see what happens"
Response "Cant"
Me Why?
Response " Uh DUh it Frozen out side"
Me "Oh Where are you"
Response "Maine"

Well Jeez all that and many other examples not needed if there was just a location.
For Cripes sake.... Last week it was India! No wonder the guy could not find parts!!!

Fill out a Profile location.

I don't miss the Newb getting in a arguement with Poboy over it though.

Should be mandatory to at least put Region of planet or Country.

On the flipside, there's a lot of young people here. If I were a parent, I wouldn't want my kid's giving out more than vague locations.

Just a region would be great.
I would not want my kids giving that out either. So Good point.

Right thats why I said "region" and he said "Vague location."

Its not like just look for the hoarder guy in White Settlement. There will be a cat sleeping in the street as you go by. LOL

That would narrow it down, too much! LOL

Luckily, I'm such a nice guy that nobody would want to come after me!!!!

Edit: BTW: I guess my new truck will be showing up on Google maps street view soon. Saw a car with cameras on all 4 corners on my street today.

Tried that; although it is included in the registration form, it's not a mandatory field; Robert feels that "it may 'put off' new members"...

I pay $175 for Phone,Cable and Internet, on a "Bundle" package. My wife called and negotiated that from $203.
The internet is only 15megabytes speed.
and the home phone is $19.95, but we do not even own a phone. If we cancel the Phone service... we lose our "Bundle" package and the price goes up $43!!!
Its friggin Ridiculous. stoopid Cowturd frog snacks aggravating.
