The new axle came in today so I went ahead an removed the old one. Turns out the old one was aluminum. The new one is steel, so maybe if it gets backed into the wall again maybe it'll have a better chance of surviving it. I've kind if settled down on the selling it part, I think I'm going to quit hooning it all the time and start racing a little and see how that works out as I was getting tired of the constant work and money that came with yard karting it. It just never seemed to end. Who knows where it'll go from here.

Finally got my kart all back together. I've been treating tires since last Friday and I have 5 gallons of 35% nitromethane/methanol mixed up. My brother is coming over to drive it Saturday night at our local go kart dirt track. We're out motored, out chassised, but we'll have more hot sauce in the fuel tank than anyone there. Updates as they happen.

Does the rest of the crowd run nitro?

That's sounds like when I was younger we had a kart track and we were lent a margay frame(all I remember).
Took an old Tecumseh flatty and tried to compete with the guys spending bux on briggs raptors. We had wore out tires and a hoopty frame but we're keeping our own.
They didn't like that we could beat them if it all held together and started making new rules to exclude us. We didn't know about fuel pumps and such and had to have an over head tank to feed the Micuni. Can't have that, they said. That was I think the last straw and we gave the kart back and said kiss my......

I'm pretty tight with the owner and manager and neither one of them are aware of anyone ever trying over 10%, and they blew them up, so as far as i'm aware no one else is. I've played with it enough that I feel fairly confident that I can make it live on 35%. I've made pull after pull on my dyno at 20% and it hasn't been a problem, and i've ran it quite a bit on my minibike. As far as the local go kart crowd is concerned nitro will blow your motor up so I feel pretty confident that we'll be the only ones out there on it, but then again, you know how racers are about full disclosure....we'll see I guess.......

Just got home from the track. My brother did a heck of a job, particularly so when you consider this was his first time ever entering a race. 6 karts, he started outside middle. He spun the tires in the hit and went bad sideways and wide, got it gathered back up in 6th with a big gap to 5th. He managed to work his way back up to 3rd, the got loose again to get back to 6th, he managed to pass for 5th before he just ran out of laps. With a few more laps I think he would've been fighting for 3rd.the first two karts just had us all outmotored. No spinouts, didn't hit the wall, and no contact with other karts not counting bumpers. Well done IMO, especially when you consider it was his first race, not to mention the only kart racing I've done is on the backyard track, and the one time I did try it, I turned the axle into a J, do I have no real experience other than what i've read on the internet so I have no idea what i'm doing either.

30% was clearly too much for this block. I managed to remove the cyl, and entire upper head assy eithout even removing a bolt. Aka, I blew the cyl off of it. I have pics but can't figure out how to get them from my phone to here (new phone)

Sorry for your loss but please share. You know we love the carnage!

Any speculations as to what exactly let loose or did it just do the nitro boom!

I'm not sure if it predetonated or what, it just started sounding "crunchy" and lost power so I stopped and looked. If anyone can tell me how to upload pics from an android I'd be glad to show you.

As suitcase Jake would say "it blowed up"
