Noob with experience building a shifter kart. Kx125 style

Almost done with the motor mount.

Drilled the holes and mounted it to the motor to make sure my work stayed square, trying to get a good penetration without to much heat to warp the mount I made.. With the motor being home and me welding at a buddies shop I had to do this in 3 steps to make sure I did it right the first time. My last and final step will be me welding the parrallel bars from front to rear support that will allow me to mount the motor to the frame.

Wish I had all the tools in my own garage it would go much faster..

That's a nice looking mount. To save time I just used the bikes frame and welded it to a couple pieces of c channel which works nicely, but I like your work and welds!

ds13: im waiting on parts, so i have nothing but time. the welds are just something i was taught. next i gotta learn tig. i feel with the mig im pretty good to trust myself if i built a car that it would stay together. the work is trial and error. ive had alot of errors not listening to people that are more knowledgeable about what i was doing.

Makes sense if I were you, I would try to find some classes about teaching tig welding beofre buying a machine because A) they are really expensive B)anyone can do it wrong,but it is tricky to do it right.

And what gearing should be run to be in a good torquey gear ratio

I'm not concerned with speed but sapposed it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't atleast 80mph.. I still want to be able to clutch it alil and smoke the tires..

Is that to much to ask...... LoL

Your motormount is looking good man
Just make absolutely sure your engine is 100% perfectly square to the axle, (not just square to the frame rails) or you might end up having problem throwing your chain. You could check alignment by using a carpenter's square between the axle and your countersprocket.



Does your kart have a 40mm axle?
If so, I found some good prices on #428 axle sprockets here:

And then heres a deal on a 14 and 17-tooth / #428 countersprocket set for your engine:

A 17 tooth countersprocket & a 24-tooth axle sprocket combonation should get you somewhere in the 65-80mph range, and still have good acceleration.

Anderkart: thanks for the links. I'd have to see what chain I have which is almost new...

Would rather use what I have and only buy one sprocket, then have to buy all 3... Just trying to keep this some what a budget build.

Having a problem finding a 428 setup for my 1988 kx 125.... So I have 2 options of now.. Buying a 78-79 kx125 front sprocket to see if it works or any 2001-2013 kx100 front sprockets to see if any of the splines match my 1988

Or keep on the lookout for a 520 rear sprocket in a 25-30 tooth range.

#520 sprockets are avalible here: http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/shifter_kart_&_quarter_midget_sprockets_for_3.htm But you'll also need to buy a hub to instal it.

What diamiter is your axle?

on the search for 428 sprocket. for this spline design with the following measurements..

from 1 oclock to 6oclock measures 15.7mm or .61 inch

from 3 oclock to 9 oclock measures 19.6mm or .77 inch




axle measured (wiithout key)

31.8 mm or 1.25 inch

other then the tools this mount only cost me 15 bucks to make.

really happy with it. gonna weld some nuts to it once i drill some holes and it will be completely done and ready for paint.

oh and my shifter came in so now i cant make the mounts and mount that...

Welp this crossed my path and now I'm not even done with the shifter kart and I want to split these two turbos up and use one for my cart...

This twin turbo setup is off a supra just not sure which one... Probably late 80's early 90's box-ish one

Came off a 1jz or 2jz? It looks like 1j turbos but those weren't in the mk3 (boxy) supra. Only supra in the us with twins stock was the mk4 (round).

jblankster. i think these are off my boss's 91 rhd supra. not sure. but hes had a couple of the supra's and these were sitting there and he said do something with them. so i grabbed them. who wouldnt want some spare turbos around to play with.

They are off a 1jz if its a real rhd Japanese car.
