Neebie to karts. Got a kart with a GY6 clone, 1 yr old, ran flawless until we let it set for couple months, then the problem started. Finally got it started with starting fluid, but would not idle. Ran all kinds of carb cleaner thru with no success. Always good gas, filter is clean.
Finally took carb off to check, looks excellant, no water, dirt, or varnish. When trying to start, acts like it is not getting gas.
Once it is started, it runs ok. Just wont start.
Any ideas appreciated.

When you cleaned the carb, did you poke out the jets with a little piece of wire?

Also make sure the actual fuel tank is clean, some smootz may have gotten through.

I had to split for work this morning before finishing my thoughts. The link I posted, indicates that a bad enricher solenoid would cause a good cold start, but a very rich running condition. Which leads me to this: What if the enricher fuel passage were clogged? Then you'd get no fuel through it, causing your problem. I would try taking the enricher solenoid off, and chasing the passage with a bit of fine wire.

I did clean each passage with small wire then air. The tank has been drained and is clean, fuel has been changed. Finally got it running yesterday, but quit after 5 minutes and wouldnt start. Acts like it is not getting gas. On the auto choke, it does not start even when cold. Have to use starting fluid to get it going and then it will run, but not right. It still may be the auto choke, I think I may buy one and change it out. This engine has a bunch of vacuum hose running all over the place. I have tried to check all of them to make sure they are good. Found one and changed, but no improvement. I may get some better hose and change all those. Thanks for the ideas. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

A little of both. Occasionally, I do emergency calls on the weekend. In this case, a Sunday was the only available day to get into this place, so my dad and I were "voluntold"...:toetap05:

Ahh. CAn't argue with the bossman (most of the time :D)

Hey - just noticed you have 1,000 thanks (in 812 post no less...) Good job.

It might be because I'm a cheapskate, or a sucker for punishment... Or something... I wouldn't be purchasing a new carb- at least not yet. A complete disassembly and thorough scrutiny of every part may reveal something.

I did a complete disassembly and everything looked brand new. Was looking on the BMI site and they show a fuel pump for a 150cc, any chance that is the problem?

EDIT- Although your issue seems a bit different than an auto choke (enricher) failure, read this : http://www.buggydepot.com/buggy-tec...3/how-it-works-150cc-gy6-automatic-choke.html[/QUOTE]

Cant find the resistor that is on the site you referenced. I have looked my kart over from top to bottom.
Disconnected the auto choke and got it running, although not smooth. Didnt run long enough to get the engine good and hot to see how it would run. Looks like I am going to pull the carb again and give it another cleaning, maybe even boil it.
Anybody got any ideas how to make my carb perform better?

Your carb is really only capable of so much. After you have it running right, you can read the plug and adjust your A/F mix if need be.
