Ok so I finally got my Predator 212 last night and slapped it on the go cart. I broke it in per the specs but after lining it up and reinstalling the clutch/chain it would not crank. We jacked up the rear and it fired right up but as soon as we let it down or hit the brakes it killed the motor. We fiddled with it for a while but never could figure out what was causing it to die. Any ideas???

Its a brand new Predator 212 with a Max Torque Clutch.

is your chain really tight

It has some slack in it....thats the first thing I thought of but it doesnt seem to be that tight. How much slack/play should there be?

it shouldn't be a lot but you should be able to push it and pull atart it on the ground

Yeah, im not sure whats causing it to do what its doing. It will only start with the back end off the ground and it dies as soon as you let it down or hit the brakes. Almost like the clutch doesnt have enough stall to keep up with the rpms of the motor.

Try pushing your kart does it roll free or spin the wheels when it's jacked up to see if your wheels spin easy if they don't more than likely your chain is to tight

The cart rolls freely and when you crank it with it jacked up the turn with no problem but as soon as you set it down or slow it down with the brake it shuts off.

That is weird so it doesn't idle either? What is your clutch engagement rpms?

No it wont idle with the tires on the ground. From what I read on Max Torques website the clutch is rated at 2200 rpms.....the Predator 212 only idles at 1800....?

Try adjusting the idle down and see if that works

Tried that last night and it didnt seem to effect it at all. Im stumped lol

Yeah that is weird do you have any other clutches to try

Maybe the bushing is worn out? Be sure to grease it! Your spring could also be loose or worn out. You should check that out aswell. Goodluck!

By bushing you mean the one that is inside the clutch correct. Does the clutch need to be disassembled and greased? If so what do I grease it with?

There's a copper bushing, right where the sprockets sits. You could dissasembly it and check out your spring then aswell. It may become loose when you assembled it again. Be sure to take some pictures too!!

I grease it with some grease oil (like WD40), it does fine.

As a matter of fact when I took it apart last night I saw that bushing and it was kinda hard to get off. It was greasy or oily at all. Could this be the problem?

It should easily slide off as far as I know.

Ok ill grease it all and try it again because it was pretty hard to slide out when I disassembled it.
