How come there isnt better info on power gained from specific improvements? I understand the car world has 100x the people and money in the hobby. But it seems as if nobody has ever put one of these motors on a dyno.( i know thats not true just seems that way.) Tired of all these youtube builders saying "40 hp build" yadayada.
Im building a 420 for a modest torque build. Would be cool if you could find a dyno chart anywhere. Would be nice to know where my build would be, but i have yet to find 1 dyno chart for a 420 period. Lots of people make claims but they (to my knowledge) are 100% guessing as well. Anyway thats my rant....

Flyinhillbilly on here has built a homemade dyno before. But it blew up. :toetap05:

KartFab(also on YouTube), a.k.a Grant also has a dynamometer.

He might be willing to dyno an engine for you if you take it to Dallas!

While an engine dyno is far out of my reach for you to make happen..
a road dyno is in fact in the making.
No it'll not nearly be as precise as a calibrated load quality engine dyno,
but it should be able to get you a really good estimate.

Takes a few more months I'm afraid; but it's hopefully going to be free (wish me luck)
at worst you'll need to sacrifice an old headset or such.. we'll see.

Now, the problem with engine mods is..
not two are identical..
and even the exact same engine produces twelve different results in ten different runs or so ;)
since miniscule factors (engine temp, air temp, -density, -humidity, state of fuel and filters, condition of spark plug, oil and whatnot)
can and will not only add up but multiply to create those different values..

And if we then include things like
headbolt torque, gasket quality, efforts in valve grinding, precision of valve springs,
piston ring gap alignment
or worse: precision of the cam grind, piston/cylinder fit etc...

the spread between two engines (even if made to be identical)
can be quite surprising.

So another man's dyno-results are actually not more than a wild guess for your engine,
maybe closer to the butt-o-meter results you find on youtube and alike,
maybe not :(

your engine is the only one that counts I'm afraid..
and that's where I will hopefully be able to step in in a few months ;)

I would suggest trying to either use that dyno or going to a powersports dyno they usually do four wheelers and motor cycles at the ones ive heard of

I think I know what software that you’re looking to use. I’ve been fiddling with sensors to find what will work best for my planned chassis dyno.
You are absolutely correct in the difference from engine to engine. The ignition timing, tune at the carb, and variances in head porting all factor in that as well.
I usually make mine as fast as I can and don’t worry about what the numbers are anyway. In my experience the best use for a dyno is to tune the carb, and find optimum ignition timing. Numbers are just numbers.

Yeah writing my own software ;)
a more sophisticated version with hopefully better sensorical alignment
than my current kartcalc (which is doing that already.. but webbased which is kind of stretching the limits of browser rights these days),
with the bonus of a few [optional] hardware addons maybe,
will have to see what's viable when I get there.
maybe a bluetooth dongle or where applicable a headphone jack dongle instead..
an rpm pickup some pressure and temp sensing.. nothing too fancy since I want it to be cheap. (who'd pay for a 100 dollar dongle..so I'm aiming to stay below 20 dollars instead)

But this thread wasn't to advertise any upcoming stuff of mine sooo
back to topic I guess ;)

yeah ill dyno your engine, but you need to have a billet connecting rod and billet flywheel on it if you want numbers over 5500 rpm.

Thanks guys, and thanks kartfab. Whats the cost to make a pull and a print off of data? P.m. me if you need
