Yea but most Victa 125 and 160cc engines can be rebuilt very cheaply especially out here in Australia and there's millions of them around for spares most of the older briggs and tecumseh's are stuffed bore wise anyway just wait till your Suzuki needs overhaul and you'll see what i mean.

I ran a small engine overhaul shop for quite a few years and experiance i feel counts.

Speed is not everything Russ2251.

how do u make the throttle. im having trouble. does no clutch affect the engine negativly??:cheers2:

You need either the G3 carby or an Amal that the Delteks and Decksons used and if using the G3 carb you can remove the govenor vane and braze an arm on the throttle shaft which you can atach the throttle cable too.

no clutch??

:iagree:
The clutch on the Victa's is a tapered shaft that requires no key it's an interferance fit that snugs up tight on the taper then as the outer sleeve is tightened it retains the clutch simple and effective.

There no negativty here just simple engineering these engines run at between 3600 rpm and with the correct amal carby will run higher mine run around the 4500 rpm.

These are a far better engine than the Lawnboy will ever be.

I still think it's one of the best 2-stroke mower engines ever made.
I could not agree more. They (Suzuki) have a projected lifespan of about 5 or 6 times that of an average mower engine.

I take issue with the following statement:
These (Victa)are a far better engine than the Lawnboy will ever be.
Based on what? I question his 'experience'.
Lawn-Boys were considered among the best engines on the planet. So called 'global warming' is the only thing that could (and did) kill them.
As far as performance on a kart or mini bike goes, it's been stated that "just simple engineering these (Victa) engines run at between 3600 rpm and with the correct amal carby will run higher mine run around the 4500 rpm."
I get 6000 rpm or better with a $30 carb and no mods other than slightly altered compression ratio and straight exhaust.
Also, do a Yahoo search on Victa parts. Then do a search on Lawn-Boy parts.
See the problem? It's easier to get parts for a Yugo.
No wonder they never made their way to the states.
At one time I wanted to get my hands on a Victa. Now I know it's the last thing I want.

Yeah with a direct drive setup it doesnt take long after letting off the throttle to slow down. Well assume the engine has reasonable compression. What where to happen if the engine sudden decided to wedge its rod? Eeeek could get nasty.

Mr. Russ i couldnt agree more with your statment about LB's

down here in Oklahoma i try to get every single lawn boy i can and as fast as i can because those things sell quickly and in the right hands they sell for a pretty goob price

i buy them for cheap, fix 'em up and usally they sell for anywhere from $50-$120 within the 2nd to 3rd day, somtimes even on the 1st
and i make a fortune doing so

Why have NO clutch, when it's not much more effort to install one? It's nice just to throttle-N-go.

If you are on a tight budget get the Max Torque or Comet, they are $30 or less.

If you want the BEST reliability, and HP handling, and easiest-to-work-on clutch, then get a Hilliard Extreme-Duty. I'm VERY pleased with mine.

Get an extra bronze bushing to ensure the life of your clutch.

The reason he is talking about using direct drive on a victa is due to the expense involved in mounting a clutch. Victa's have threaded driveshafts, so if you don't have access to a lathe, or friends that can do it for you, it will set you back around $70 AU to get a custom sleve made up so you can mount a clutch. Then add the price of a new carby, which is 100% required, then the custom manifold to make it fit, then a clutch, chain and sprocket, and you have spent at least $170 AU. Add in misc stuff like gasket's and you're talking $200. You could have had a 6.5 horse clone off ebay, and a clutch, chain and sprocket for a tiny bit more. It's really not feasible to use a Victa unless your spending someone else's money, or have a large amount of your own.
