Hi Everyone

Ive been reading up on here and a few other sites.

Been trying to decide if I should build an electric or gas powered Radio Flyer Kart.

Im kind of leaning towards an electric because I will mostly be using this at College Football tailgate parties and car shows.
(Was at Shades of the Past this past weekend which got my itch going)

Ive found a good design for a gas powered Radio flyer that I will base mine off of. I dont think it will be too bad to convert it.

I started looking into the motor and it seems like alot of people recommend the 36V 1000watt kit from monster scooter.

I went to go check it out and notice it is not instock and it wont ship till the end of Nov.

I was wondering if I step down to a 36V 750 watt kit, will I notice much of a difference ?

Im not wanting to build anything that is crazy FAST... More something that would be fun and I could run the whole day on a full charge.

I was looking at these two
36 Volt 750 Watt Electric Motor with 11 Tooth #25 Chain Sprocket (Currie Technologies)
http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/36v-750w-motor-11tooth-currie.html
36 Volt 750 Watt Electric Motor with #25 Chain Sprocket (MY1020)
http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/36v70mowichs.html

What are the differences between these too ??

Im thinking right now to run a 10 tooth sprocket on the motor and a 74 tooth sprocket on the rear and a #35 chain ?

If anyone could help me out that would be great!
Thanks
Allen

Hey!
I would MOST CERTAINLY go with the electric option. I love my electric radio flyer. I have just a 350watt motor and it scoots me around silently at about 15mph on a good day. I would MOST CERTAINLY go with the electric option. That may not seem that fast, but that's about as fast as you need to go in a parking lot at a tailgate party, and much faster than they want you to go at a car show with a lot of people around.
The difference between those to motors is the can shape, the first is more of a "pancake" and the second is more shaped like a coffee can. I don't now about the performance differences between the two designs, but I prefer the pancake one only because it's smaller and easier to mount.
You're going to want some pretty big batteries if you want to scoot around all day (assuming "all day" isn't really 24 hours, but more like a good excursion to the car show or all through the tailgate party). You can get some pretty cheap deep cycle 20amp hour batteries on ebay if you shop around.
This is my wagon:

My design has a lot of room underneath the wagon tub for lots more batteries. I tried to make mine still look like a wagon. But some people want it to look more like a hot rod. Anyways, it's up to you!!
Good luck!!

Also shop around....monster is expensive.

check out TNCScooters, ive found them to be much less pricey than monster.

I'm currently building a electric Radio flyer for my daughter. Having problems with the pedals right now but its almost done.

Thank Ya for the information!

I've checking out your thread on here too! Great build

I'm going to go with the first style motor. Didn't realize how much smaller it is.

I was planning on running 3 of these batteries..

That's exactly the style of what I want to build.

Do you have a build thread?

How are you doing the pedals? I'm wanting to use pedals instead of a throttle too..

It looks awesome! Got more pics on how you mounted the motor and batteries?

Thanks
Allen

no build thread yet, ive been too busy. i have taken some pics along the way.

I'm still having issues with the pedals, but when i figure it out will take pics.

I'm using a HallEffect Throttle box that i got from ebay for about 45.00 (best offer) that should work well.

i have 3 10ah batteries under the pan flat ways....

Heres a few pics

the problem with current pedal setup is the geometry is off so there isnt enough cable movement to activate the brake/throttle. i have to work on redesigning mounts.

and the thottle box that i modded to work with pedals
(when i got it, there was no way to use a cable to pull it, so i added a cable mount)

That looks awesome!
what all did you have to do with the box?

Do you have a parts list for getting the pedal to work?

Can that throttle cable not shift off the round piece. If it can, then you should somehow secure it. If it comes off, you won't have a throttle cos the cable will then be too slack

this steel plate is what i made to hook up the bike cable to the throttle box...there is no way to mount the cable when u get it.

the throttle cable seems to be secure enough because of the angle the pedal pulls and the mount of the actual sleeve on the back side. ill keep an eye on it

Cboy, what happened to your pics in your photobucket account? Have you moved them. They are now not available in you posts
