Well I keep striking out here. I can't find any part that fits this description exactly, so I'll have to recommend buying a steel shaft adapter to convert a shaft from 3/4 to 1 inch shaft. Look up ebay item #380780662478.

ok, so I re measured and I have a 1" axle with a key. So this should be much easier. It seems the YD 3203 was changed to a 6" drum/band at some point but mine is the 4".

If I put a 6" drum on there would it give it more stopping power? Thanks!

More area of stopping+more friction from the area of stopping=increased stopping power yes theoretically. It all depends on how you set up and adjust it.

Based on your photos, you'll most likely have to relocate the fixed end mounting hole on the frame; your current anchor point may interfere with the larger diameter drum.

For $15 + s&h I would slap another band on and see how it stops w/ more meat on the band. My YD3203 wasn't stopping well when I purchased it a couple months ago so I replaced my band and it stops much better! I'm not saying it screeches to a hault with my 200 lbs. on it, but it stops fairly quickly. See attached pic. for my old vs. new band. For another $15 + s&h you could get the drum too. I ordered my band from BMIkarts.com.

Good luck and if you go with the conversion please post up details so we can all think about the upgrade as well. :)

I ordered a new band and drum. We'll see how it goes.

Interesting situation with the existing one. I've cleaned both band and drum and then scuffed up the drum A LOT with 80 grit.

After a few rides though the drum seems just as smooth and glazed over as ever...

That's because the band material has hardened with age & is now useless... as stated on page #1...

Really? I saturated with brake cleaner and sanded down to a 'fresh' layer. But maybe it's still bad. I guess we'll see once I put the new band (it's in the mail) on.

There is no fresh layer after the friction material has been contaminated with some form of petroleum product. The band lining is shot, period. Replace it and be done with it. Modern friction materials that are most commonly used for brakes in the price range most karts use are designed to shrug off water, not petroleum product's, which means that who ever soaked yours before you bought it already sealed it's fate....

And if you use the $15 to $30 price that's been lofted for new part's and then divide by your time messing around trying to save this, multiplied by the local minimum wage should show you that the price for the new part's would be the better use of your budget...

As I said. The new one is in the mail. No need for arithmetic.

But before I put it on I'm going to spend a bit more time messing with the old one. Maybe if I sand it down a bit more and soak it in brake cleaner?

Yeah ...you can spend all that time and money to expirence firsthand what we already have......which always makes me go.....hmmmmmmmmm......why is he here?????

Sorry....but it always irritates me a bit when people ask for advice...and then dismiss it out of hand....

Why the H377 ask the question if you in your misguided stubborn headed mind....you already have the answer?

Not good buddy.....

It was a joke man. Sorry you get irritated so easily!

fwiw, some people here recommended I use brake cleaner etc. and others said get a new band. I did both so I am listening to exactly what people here said.
