i'm trying to do all the work myself. this is a toy for the garage for me and maybe my son in a little while.
i bought it on craigslist for 200 bucks, and got a total of 3 briggs motors. one was some type of racing flat top motor of some sort, i have no idea... also i recv'd about 40 sets of gears for it as well. they are all 35 tooth chain gears ranging from 54 to 76.
from what i have gathered it is a margay chassis. it already had a 5 hp conversion on it with a briggs motor that ran well... until i ran it.
i got it home, cranked it, ran it 5 minutes and the motor made a heck of a noise. it was done, and instead of trying to fix it i went to HF and bought the blue ohv motor.
so far i got the motor mounted with the included brackets, it's very stable. i also bought a hilliard 12 tooth 35 clutch at northern tool while i was out and about.
when i went to move the sprocket holder on the rear axle i tightened the bolt a bit too much and stripped it. now i am left with trying to figure out how to geat a bolt through it to tighten it, or go to northern tool and buy a new one for 18 bucks.
i have attached pics...
i have a buddy who used to race these little karts, and he gave me a body kit for free... although it doesn't fit perfect i think i can get a dremel and modify it to make it look ok.
it's only going to be a neighborhood toy, not a track kart.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i have a few issues i will list below:
brake is a disk brake and is not that firm?
throttle is hooked to pedal from previous motor, but i have no idea how to put it on the new one?
i got the engine running it sounds great, but the throttle lever is not moving, do i loosen the bolt?
i want to leave it governed, so with the 12 tooth clutch, what size sprocket would you guys run on the back... i literally can choose anything i want, although when i test fit the 76 (largest i had) it was too tight and the motor was hitting the rear tire.
i will keeep everyone updated!
