Alright guys, back from the dead. I never stopped working but I did neglect to keep updating the thread.

Bike is pretty much done, took it for a test run last night, to find I have some tweaks and adjustments to make. Which is where you guys come in, because I'm mainly having trouble with the clutches.

First of all, I will ask. Does anyone know where 94c Comet clutches are still available, or know of any companies that have took over comet products?

I know that the 94c performs much better than my 500 series driver with 40 series driven.

Secondly, problem with my current clutches. With the belt on it new, The belt fits at the very very top of the driven clutch, this is because the belt for the driver is wider than the belt made for the driven. Doesn't seem like a big deal right? Belt just rides slighty out of the groove during start up.

HOWEVER

The belt has worn down to a little under 7/8" wide now, So now, the belt is Very loose.

This results in delayed engagement, Which means slower take off, and also this only allows it to shift only 60-75% through its range.

I couldn't figure why the belt is so loose now, when I had to fight it, to get it to fit in the first place. ( Had to shave some motor fins to get jackshaft close enough)

But now I would have to move the shaft back 1/4" to get better range.

I'm going to order a few new belts for it, (Found some really cheap on ebay) 25 a piece w/free shipping.

Now, I have not driven on this belt very much at all. Now, granted, the few miles put on it weren't easy miles, as I'm sure they weren't aligned well on my first test run around the parking lot almost a year ago.

I can put the bike on blocks and run the throttle and the belt throws rubber dust at higher rpms, is this normal? They seem to be aligned, or at least very close to aligned.

And finally, what you really want, pictures.

And a video,

First start of the day, Engine is cold, No choke.

I noticed another option would be to switch to a 40 series driver and use a shorter belt, as they have a belt for 9 3/4" C.D

:O, that bike is awesome! Shaft drive is pretty cool. Google search hoffco comet, then email them. A while back they were bought by a company, and they are now making some models.

Still having clutch trouble.

I was able to get my clutch parts, took some time as most the parts were on back order.

I got the highest weights and weakest spring combos for the lowest engangment rpm, which it runs much better now taking off, However it still only making it half way through the clutch range,

Part of it is because I think is the motor isnt running the best a the moment. Having carb trouble. It dies out at full throttle and its only reaching 2800-3000 rpms

Took it out for a ride in the daylight, To see things better. got it up to 50mph and finally got the clutch to shift past 50. It shifted probably to 75-80 percent of clutch travel. Very slowly.

I noticed that the clutch almost closes all the way just as you let off the throttle, and as you coast it does this for about 10-15 secs.

I think alot of the problem just may be jackshaft gearing, and the engines performance. Its running really rich, I could not tune it down to run any better, main jet is simply too big, I have a small assortment of smaller jets on the way to play with now. I also have a few sprockets to switch out on it, But I figure I will wait until I have the carb straightened out.

Always tweaking it....

Ditched the Torque converter system and threw down some cash for a harley Five speed and Clutch setup. Converted the rear wheel to sprocket.

Switching everything over was surprisingly easy, Did not take much time at all.

I have to add a support bearing to my sprocket adapter. But I have test rode it and I am very pleased with the trans.

I also switched to a 2 into 1 exhaust system, So simplicity.

Engine is running pretty bad right now, Carb issues, However I am waiting until I build the engine built before dialing it in.

I was able to get it up to 55MPH This was at about the middle of 3rd gear... It felt like it had some decent pull, even with the engine running so bad! Bike cruises smooth. I have a front tire balance issue though. Starts hopping at 55 and up, No big deal though.

So I have waiting to work out the new set of sprockets and chain and support bearing along with wheel alignment, and then I am going to take the frame down to steel again and Paint it this time around.

Motor parts that I will be ordering soon.

ARC rods and flywheel and CAM

That is a bad a$$ bike!! I have read this build log a few times.

How much did the Harley setup cost if you don't mind me asking

Too much. Which is why I didnt go for it in the first place,

450 for the trans, 150 for the clutches, 50 in pieces that didn't come with either of the two.

Those are pretty good deals on both Too. Especially the trans.

A polished low miles unit usually cost 550 and up. I got lucky!

It was a costy upgrade but a its Worth it! I know its Right and reliable now.

I will be throwing down about 1k into the motor .... :ack2:

But it will be bulletproof and outta add some horses.

I don't really cost about the cost of it anymore, Its too far along, and I want it done right.

I still cant get over the fact that you call this a mini bike. Its progressed to something much more impressive. You did a great job.

I haven't called it that for a while. That was just the original intention until I realized the motor was big enough for full size.

Just bought ARC rods and Billet flywheel. Looking to get this motor bored and re-sleeved with a bigger Bore so if anyone knows a good place to get this done at a reasonable price let me know!

Make sure you get a large slide carb for this thing. It will help with the throttle response so much while helping to produce more power. What is the stock hp?
