We need a few pictures of the kart first. Can you weld? What kind of drive system do you have? Tire size? Engine size?

This should give you a good idea what a new live axle setup would look like and cost:

1" Steel Live Axle | 4000** | BMI Karts And Parts
Flex Proof Flexpruf Steel Solid Axle - 1" | AZ1413-40 | Azusa 1413-40 | BMI Karts And Parts
{I included both the solid flexible and the solid nonflexing (my personal preference) type axles, both with full length keyways.}

1/4" x 1/4" Keystock (12") | AZ8403 | 8403 | BMI Karts And Parts {cut length to fit, make them long enough to not squish the ends with setscrews.}

(10) 1" INCH DOUBLE SPLIT STEEL SHAFT COLLAR BLACK OXIDE SC100D | eBay {don't use any other type, no setscrews required, 30 sec. installs.}

(4 PCS) 1" Bore "SOLID BASE" Self-Aligning Pillow Block Bearing, UCP205-16 P205 | eBay {strongest available, can be a little crooked, have zerks.}

Unihub - Sprocket Hub | AZ2556 | Azusa 2556 | BMI Karts And Parts
Heavy Duty Aluminum Sprocket Hub (1" Bore) - Black | 433968 | BMI Karts And Parts
{I included both the cheapest, and the better double-split (my personal preference) type hubs, the splits squeeze down on axle like collars above.}

#35 Split Sprocket | 6335** | BMI Karts And Parts {don't use solid type that don't require hub above if possible, these slap on directly in 5 min flat.}

Yup, as said above, it's a pretty simple concept :thumbsup:

Probably something like this (see pics) can be welded on most any kart,SAM_4060 (1).JPGTo have a "live axle"
...& then, just add an appropriate size sprocket & brake set up :2guns:SAM_4059 (1).JPG

Ok here are some photos, I figured out that klipper just turned down the right side of the axle. Now I just have to get the bearings cut off and the on to the sprocket hub

Um...it looks like you already have a live axle (with "step downs") :thumbsup:
...see why pics are so helpful? ;)

These pics should have been in your first post :cheers2:

You know with a little heating and beating that should come apart. You were already smart enough to wire wheel the axle clean and shined! Some penetrating oil like Kroil, PB Blaster, atf and acetone mix or diesel fuel and let it soak. Then a few minutes with a propane torch cool it with your favorite secret sauce (penetrating oil). Then grab your favorite hammer and punch and go to town. Same applies to the rest of the junk on the axle.

Functional Artist is right provided there is a key way on the other side of the axle and it is the same size in diameter if not it is as simple as sliding out the old axle and sliding in the new and fully keyed same size and length axle.

Well then you know what you have to do then. Save as much as you can to reuse, except the bearings. Replace those!

The right side was turned down with no keyway on it and was running a bearing in the hub.
So the whole axle was spinning just the way it looks like, as a live axle, but the right side was made to just freewheel in a wheel bearing? Not sure if I've ever seen that before, would have to really dislike the turning drag of a live axle to do that. If that's correct, you've got your live axle all set and ready to go already. Only thing missing is machining or otherwise carving a keyway into the right end of the axle, and losing that wheel bearing. That, and new axle bearings as Denny said.

Correct, I read that klipper kart was made by t&d metals and for liability reasons they turned down axles they had on hand I guess rider's where getting scalped or clothing caught up in it.They also put a square tube on and run the axle through it ,it's making for a ruff time getting the damn thing apart.

You get to take out your frustrations beating on stuff.
Yep, that's why my BFH collection is gathered around the vise leg on my bench. 1# claw, 3# mini-sledge, 4# blacksmith's, and a 12# full whammy bad attitude hammy jammy. My builds show me great respect/trepidation/fear.

Professor I like your idea of the split sprocket, is there a hub like the sprocket and brake drum combo I can use for the split sprocket?

a hub like the sprocket and brake drum combo I can use for the split sprocket?
The first link below has a 4.5" brake drum that's machined O.D. for use with a brake band (as opposed to I.D. for internal brake shoes), and it has the standard 6 holes on a 5.25" bolt circle that the split sprockets bolt up to.
The second link is a 1" bore hub for the brake drum to bolt up to. Add a split sprocket to the OD brake drum, slap on some double-split locking collars, and you're up and rolling. Brake bands themselves can be optional if any ex-wives are driving it.
4-1/2" Brake Drum with Sprocket Flange | AZ2213-OD | BMI Karts And Parts
Steel Multi-Patterned Sprocket / Brake Hub (1" Bore) | AZ2561 | Azusa 2561 | BMI Karts And Parts

Thanks professor that is exactly what I was looking for, I missed the brake drum that had the sprocket mounting flange on it when looking for parts..I got all of the axle parts ordered, and just ordered the sprocket and brake stuff, now waiting on FedEx, the three stooges (grandkids) are going to love this Easter egg hunt.
