I got my new design done a few days ago and we have been testing it out with the kids. The motor is a little 2.5 from HF. This video was made on dec 2nd ( yesterday ) and today my littel girl was so use to it that she was realy picking up the speed. This kart looks this way because it stands on its front end and folds in half for awesome storage.

Looks awesome, its great to see a 2.5 hp hauling like that. Your son certainly seems to have a lead foot (or I guess finger). Just wondering what your gear ratio is on it right now?

T man...you rock. That little thing is awesome! I have to check out your other videos on the design of it. I like the front and rear suspension. I just recently built a moto-creeper with that same 2.5HP harbor freight motor.

Hay thanks guys
jor ... the ratio that I went with was 11t #35 clutch to a 21t #35 on jack, then an 14t #41 to the sproket 54t #41. it doesn't have very good take off but once it gets going, it can cruse. I went with this because I was afraid that if the kids were playing around it and hit the thottle or if one was getting on and the other one was too impatiant .. well I'm sure you guys know what I'm saying. the draw back is that it doesn't have much power so unless it has built up some speed, going up a little hill is a chalange.
Oh and one more thing dont you hate it when you buy something and then a few days later you see something that is better for practicaly the same price. I odered that motor and then I came across a deal in a mag for a 5.5 thatwas about $20 more ... shoot.
Hay dowies...that creeper looks fun I watched all your vids the other day, good ideas, I use solidworks too for my stuff but I have an old version 04.

Yep, I removed the airbox on the 2.5HP Harbor Freight motor and cut it down to just the plastic spacer that attaches to the carb inlet. I then made a nice intake screen that keeps anthing large from getting sucked into the carb.

For my other kart using the 6.5HP Harbor Freight motor, I kept more of the airbox. The downdraft airbox on the 6.5HP motor worked really well. I just removed the top portion.

I think that if I were you I would get at least a couple of small size crash helmets.

anderkart, oh I'm sure that the cops will say something if someone tips them off or drives by ... but alot of people that live in the area know or have seen me with the kids on this thing, before the motor was on I use to push them around alot.
Plus alot of people know about what I'm trying to do and think that its pritty neet.
Now in that last video we are across the street, at the park, that trail is a walking trail ... not even bikes are aloud..let alone a go kart, but most of the people that saw us were all smiles. But we wont be pushing our luck so we have other places also.

Awesome, great design. Were can i buy the plans! I brand new 2.5 and a 6.5 waiting to be put to use. How do you think it would hold up with the 6.5? I guess i could just beef up the tubing a bit.

To figure out jackshaft ratios you simply multiply. Say you have a 10t on the engine to a 60t on the jackshaft, then a 10t on the jackshaft to a 30t on the axle. just multiply 6:1x3:1 and you get 18:1 ratio.

multiply?? I thought it was Add... on my set up its 11t ( clutch) to 21t jack, wouldnt that be 21/ 11 = 1.909090....( 1.91 ) then from 14t on jack to 54t on axle, 54/14= 3.85714.... (3.86 ) so 1.91 "+" 3.86 = 5.77/1 ratio

isn't that the math??
