i'm almost positive your kart is set up the way it's supposed to be. but we got the Wilhelm Ackermann jenius thing going here so idk. you would think if thay where supposed to be crossed thay would not hit or rub the frame. maybe that bar was hit by somthing and got bent upwords. try bending the tab up on the steering. may it got bent. bending it up more should make it cleer the frame. if you do you will probably have to adjust the ball joints out more on the rods.

Nothing is bent or out of place. All seems to be in perfect condition. I was on youtube and searched "thunder kart" and found a video with a kart just like mine. I took a screen shot of the steering of that kart. It looks to be in the exact same configuration as mine even with the steering plate having that small lip on it...

---------- Post added at 03:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 PM ----------

Yea the plate is 'suppose' to be flat... and I had to look up the first name (swing and miss)... all I remember is the last name has 2 n's at the end (thx Sid).

I didnt take into account it being a dead axle... and Sid is correct... probably wont make much difference in turning ability, cept tire wear will be excessive (even perfectly aligned straight). The plate is there (possibly for a good 'reason') and in its current configuration, you'll notice as you turn... the inner wheel (I believe it's the inner... maybe it's the outer) will literally 'drag' in turns... dragging tire = excessive tire wear... but some folk dont know better and except excessive wear as a 'given' for a kart... and as you can see there are those that will share 'hear-say' info, as a 'fact'(not Sid... he's Mr. #'s guy... and #'s dont lie!)... vs those that have ACTUALLY implemented said suggestion, on more that 10+ different frames/karts... w/out a single bit of issues in turning/wear!

... but to each his/her own! Just thought Id interject what I saw that 'could' cause issues.

I found a video on youtube with same exact kart. Steering config. is all the same. Even the steering plate. Should I leave it?

I do...

That's the first time you mentioned anything like that, we were all working off "standard operating procedure" (for lack of a better term)...

If you had made this ^^ post early on page one, we may not be on page two right now...

The steering may have well come from the factory that way and yet still be wrong. That is why we have a forum and why we work on and fix Karts.
Last year I googled "skunk works" and came up with a mini Kart made by "Go Ped" There biggest brag on the site and their selling point was that the new and improved Kart had "Correct Ackerman" fully implying that previous models did NOT have correct Ackerman.
So you may be right, the kart arm are factory correct the way they are and others posting here are correct in swapping the arms for Correct Ackermann. Just my 2 cents.

It's VERY probable that it just wasnt rectified/fixed on that one aswell... no appologies deserved to noone... but quite honestly... do what ya want. Im weary of all the hear-say info given as fact... confusing newcommers.

As far as you Rocketkart... (remove the chip from your shoulder... NOONE called u a liar) I dont know bout Sid... but I find it VERY offensive of YOU calling me/Sid a 'god' in/for ANY fashion (even in your sarcastic tone)!... and I dont appreciate all the cussing and ingorance that your PMing me (forwarded to a moderator)... if youre gonna cuss me out using those 4 letter words... atleast be man enough to spell it right! I/Sid dont have to prove anything (even though I/we 'can' w/ a video and a question!)

(Gotta dig for the vid... never had to prove it to someone before!)

Here's the question...Cub10, when you turn, while moving forward, does your inner wheel have more of an angle than the outer wheel (good)? Or does the outer have more of an angle than the inner (not so good)?

And like I replied to your insulting PM Rocket... if you dont like being called out... dont reply unless you can 'prove' your point... if you cant prove it... dont reply... simple. Or learn something and admit (to urself) that you were wrong, and press on.

Opinions are like noses... some are nice and picked clean... and then there are those that have that annoying brown tip, w/ a funny aroma... which usually cant be seen due to 'cheeks' being in the way!

rocketkart, cool it. This is just dumb. And seriously, good spelling and punctuation *are* virtues.

I'll have to check the steering next time I take it out for a ride.

Wait.. you're saying I am not a GOD??
Sheesh.. that's unfortunate.. I just ordered some Angels and a new Halo... :(
Ah well.. off to ebay they go then :surrender:

Oh rocket.. "from factory" is not synonymous for "perfect"
and just because you don't see any need for improving the steering, doesn't mean you couldn't. (it just means you don't need to ;))
it'd still be beneficial if done correctly.
...just sayin' :horse:

Now back to our regular program...

im having the same situation with mine, its just like yours with a bend at the top and the arms are not crossed. do you notice your steering is very sensitive because of this setup Cub10? that is the issue I am having and wondering if my setup is wrong or correct

I am glad you found this thread Mike. I did not want to have the same arguement as above on your thread too. It sounds like you could or could not cross the arms. It is worth a try no harm no foul.
