New guy here! I've been considering buying a kart for my daughter for the last 7-8 months. I've finally found one that fits the bill/budget.

I've looked around this forum for a little bit to check out builds and such, and now decided to join. My daughter and I will be going to pick up her kart later this evening. I can wait to see her ride and tear up some dirt!

Here's pic of the kart. Any info on what the make would be on this frame?

Welcome! I dunno what that is exactly. But anyway it is cool. I like the classic Go Kart look.

Nice frame... almost looks like a "Streaker" frame... but not sure if they made a dead axle frame?!?

Did notice that the steering linkages/tierod ends (at the steering wheel shaft arm) are reversed... the linkages are supposed to be crossing each other (for Ackermann), 1 above, 1 below the steering wheel arm 'plate'.

Looks like a yerf dog to me. Or a carter. Are there any stickers or markings on it anywhere?

I didn't notice any stickers/decals on it. I picked it up last night and just gave it a quick once over. I'll check later today when I get out work.

How would I go about correcting this? Could you possibly post a pic to show me how they are supposed to be installed?

no the way you have them on your kart is fine cub10. as long as the tires are inline and straight. that kart looks so familiar to me its on the tip of my tongue. give me a few and it will come back to me.

...& here I was thinking thunderkart :lolgoku:

Welcome!
It almost looks like the kartco kart I am working on.

I think you messed up the link there, Nick...

Sorry dude but, no it doesn't; look at the whole picture, the steering arms on the spindles are angled in, reducing ackermann; he needs to, at least, cross the tierods to get some steering ability...

Tony's right.. it's a thunderkart;

and Rudolph* is too,
so .. cross the tierods to improve the steering a bit.

but make perfectly sure the bolts are not interfering, otherwise they might lock up and the result will not be pretty ;)

*that's Wilhelm's real name btw ;)

I looked into crossing the steering links. I noticed I might run into a problem doing that. If you look at where the steering/tie rods bolt onto the steering arm plate they are really close to the front bar/bumper. They are about 1/4" - 1/2" from hitting. If I were to put one of the steering links to the bottom I'm almost positive it will hit/rub on the front bar. The right side (passenger side) link is closer to the front bar/bumper than the left side. I think either way I would run into the problem with it rubbing/hitting.

i'm almost positive your kart is set up the way it's supposed to be. but we got the Wilhelm Ackermann jenius thing going here so idk. you would think if thay where supposed to be crossed thay would not hit or rub the frame. maybe that bar was hit by somthing and got bent upwords. try bending the tab up on the steering. may it got bent. bending it up more should make it cleer the frame. if you do you will probably have to adjust the ball joints out more on the rods.

Rudolph!!!

Wilhelm
mathematician .. close but no cigar
Rudolph
lithographer ?? oh and inventor... (patented Ackermann steering on behalf of his friend Georg Lankensperger)

Now enough history lessons..
back to topic.

Well Cub, that's a bummer... you could work around by bending the plate back up for clearance, but frankly..
if you go through such hassle.. you'd want to dig much deeper and do it perfectly accurate;
measuring distances and angles etc. pp.
You could of course;
but since that kart is a one wheel wonder (single wheel drive, other one's just freewheeling along) proper Ackermann geometry will only make a minor difference;
since there's no sheering force on the rear axle anyways.

leave it as it is until you want to convert to a live axle and are cutting and welding anyways.

Yea the plate is 'suppose' to be flat... and I had to look up the first name (swing and miss)... all I remember is the last name has 2 n's at the end (thx Sid).

I didnt take into account it being a dead axle... and Sid is correct... probably wont make much difference in turning ability, cept tire wear will be excessive (even perfectly aligned straight). The plate is there (possibly for a good 'reason') and in its current configuration, you'll notice as you turn... the inner wheel (I believe it's the inner... maybe it's the outer) will literally 'drag' in turns... dragging tire = excessive tire wear... but some folk dont know better and except excessive wear as a 'given' for a kart... and as you can see there are those that will share 'hear-say' info, as a 'fact'(not Sid... he's Mr. #'s guy... and #'s dont lie!)... vs those that have ACTUALLY implemented said suggestion, on more that 10+ different frames/karts... w/out a single bit of issues in turning/wear!

... but to each his/her own! Just thought Id interject what I saw that 'could' cause issues.
