Good idea, I will see what I can find for rims and tires, and then buy the hub I need to fit what I can find. The nice thing is, if I find tires and rims cheap enough, that both of these hubs are under $20 a piece so, even if I eventually get both sets, if I find good deals on either size, I am not out too many $s

Been a week or so since posting, but here is where we are.
1. got the engine running pretty good - the 6hp Tecumseh, had to pull the carb back apart and reclean the passages, clean out the tiny little passages in both the mixtue screws, but the engine runs and idles now.

2. Still need a wheel, it is definately a bent wheel, as the wobble moves with the wheel.

3. Need a jackshaft sprocket, still trying to figure what # of teeth to get, anyone know the stock Manco Dingo jackshaft sprocket tooth count? I think it is 12, and I am not sure if 10 or 14 or anywhere in between is going to make that much difference. Once I get the sprocket, I will put the TC on the kart. right now it is running a Clutch with a 12 tooth gear and a 72 tooth sprocket on the axle.

4. A buddy welded up the bad spots, but I have not yet purchased the pipe for a roll cage, don't have a pipe bender, and will have to borrow my buddies mig when I do get this ready.

The kart runs as is and best guess is it achieves around 25 mph, and maybe a little more with the kid on it. the wheel wobble makes me nervous, and I am going to have to find a 9.5-8 steel rim with a keyed 1" bore soon. We are also going to have to get new front tires soon.

Now, tomorrow, i am going to look at 2 other karts - one is a 5hp motor that runs, needs the brakes worked out, but it is an old style. the second supposedly runs, but needs a clutch, this one is interesting as it appears from the pics to be running on a vertical shaft motor. I can buy either for around $100, so I am going to look at both and go from there. I am thinking the first one, as the current owner has the brake parts, but cant figure out how to make it work, says he will start and run the kart for me, and has a "spare" set of tires that goes with it, maybe he will have the rim I need as well. I have seen a lot of karts with the 18" tires and 9.5-8 wheels, but can't seem to find where to buy one. Still looking......

That is the current status, maybe this weekend we will take the cart out to the trails and I will let the kid take some videos while riding it.

talk to you later.

bighead, I sent the store an email, like I said, I have seen a lot of these on carts, so there has got to be a source for them. The shop in town might have them, and I will check when they open today. My boy and I are going to get a second cart today so I can ride with him. gonna set one up for him and one for me.

Were you able to find any bargains on used golf cart tires/rims?
Most would bolt right up on those 4 on 4" bolt circle hubs you found...

Those golf cart tires wouldnt hook up on dirt as well as knobbies, but even old used ones would probably last you another 20 years.

Yep, I found a deal on golf cart rims, steel, 9.5-8 rims about 20 bucks ea. so gonna buy these I think and the 16 dollar hubs and then just go from there. Before i jump on this though, I am running down to the local kart store (kinda) and taking a look at what he has in the back, he is more an ATV store, but, does also stock some kart parts and says he has a few used on the back of the shop.

dumb question - On our new kart, which has hubs on it, when I tighten down the axle nut the wheels lock up so i have to back them off about 1/2 turn to keep things turning freely, is this normal or am I missing something. I know we used to torque wheel bearings to ~2 ft lbs, is there a torque setting on kart hubs? The hubs we have do not appear to have any washers, spacers, anything between the nut and the bearings, are we missing parts?

Well, bought a harbor freight wire feed welder yesterday, kid took the cart out on the dirt and the front spindle broke. not sure how this is all gonna hold, but a did get a lot of welding (and grinding) practice. Trying to figure out how to replace this piece, but it is welded to the front frame, so, the best I could possibly do is cut it off and put a new one on if the weld does not hold. Any tips and tricks for welding with a wire feed welder on 3/4 in pipe? Remember I am a noob at this.

also ordered the brake parts for the other kart, will get pics of both and post maybe this evening.
