I was hoping to get most of my parts locally but I'm okay with ordering online. Or mail order. Luckly most of these parts are available. I will more than likely either sand or sandblast the axle. It needs a little love. It is although in pretty decent shape, not great but workable. Thanks.

Okay I did a search and obviously I'm not right on my lingo. So I will ask here. I need to know what chain I need #35, #40/41. So how do I measure the sprocket on the axle to tell me. I know 3/8 is a 35 but I measured something different but I am wondering if I measured it right. Any help please? Purty please. Thanks again guys. I'll take a link too.

Here are some local sources where I live... I have a online purchase phobia too...

Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, (some) True-value stores, alotta mom/pops lawn equipment suppliers, CList(sometimes used karts, supply parts that cant be bought intown). Google "local go-cart tracks (your zip code)" most tracks know "local" part distributors.

I went to our local Northern Tool last week and they don't carry any parts in the store. I couldn't believe it. I looked high and low and asked. I checked Harbor Freight last Wensday and they didn't have anything. I will be checking our little ACE hardware or True Value. There's really several places I feel that might carry parts and I've googled several places locally. Luckly I don't live out in the middle of nowhere. Thanks again. No progress for today. Today was work and yard work. I'll be piddling with it some this weekend. I'm going to carry it out to have my buddy reweld the spindle mount. The weld has a crack, should be an easy fix. Or I might fix it myself. Thanks.

Another newbie guestion. I have a 60 tooth sprocket and I am running a 13x5.00-6 tire what would you recommend for my spocket on my engine/clutch? I don't have the old one...so any help thoughts would be great. I'm worried that this is a big sprocket on a small tired go kart. Although it is a two seater and some what heavy. Thanks again.

No, that sounds about right...

Did you figure out the chain pitch?

Unfortunately, you're limited as to your choice of clutch; a #35 clutch will have 12 teeth where a #41 clutch has 10... & that's pretty much it...

If your sprocket is #40/41, you're good coz you'll end up with 6:1 gearing but, if it's #35, you'll be stuck at 5:1

I am working on that part. I need to measure the chain but I feel it might be a 40/41, but until I figure out what I got I can't assume anything.

Okay I've got another newb question. I am looking for my bearings and I do have part #s on the front bearings which I feel I can get easly. But the rears have me stumped. What would you call the rear bearings. Maybe my terminology isn't up to snuff. Thanks again for the help and patience. I hope to have some more pics up soon.

The frame

We've been working pretty feverishly getting to the bare frame. Took us a week or so to get here. We've had to fight rust and all the glory of a toy riddin hard and put away wet. But I love it. I will try to get more photos uploaded so for now and while the internet is working have fun.

I guess I will keep this as our build thread. So if a moderator wants to move it to the build section that is fine with me or leave it be. I'll have tons more guestions and thoughts. Thanks for taking a peek.......

easy fix

Sure thing! Today we took the kart out to a good friends house to have him weld up a crack in a weld at the spindle mount. Easy enough fix. Also bent it back to where it used to be. Also fixed the tierod mount on the other side. Much better. Have to set the toe now.

Another question for the masses. Is there a difference between a #40 or #41 chain? We do have one of these and not the #35. I'm working on getting my parts list together so we can get our stuff ordered up. My goal is to have this bad boy running by the end of October. Which is my stepsons B-Day. I'm looking forward to seeing him on it. I'm looking forward to driving it as well....hehehehe.

Here's the specs on #40 #41 chain:

40 1/2" 5/16" 5/16" 0.284" 810 lbs
41 1/2" 0.306" 1/4" 0.227" 500 lbs

As you can see, #40 is slightly wider...

I think you may need to revisit the tierod mounting arms; it appears that the one that was repaired is at totally the wrong angle... Come to think of it, they both are when you consider Ackermann...
