Thanks guys. I'm starting to think about motors. I'm going to get the H.F. 3 or 6 horse power. I naturally want the biggest but this is going to be a radio flyer wagon cart and I wonder if a 6er will be too much?

I've never had too much power on anything. LOL

I have a modded 5hp briggs on mine that puts out about 8hp. I wish it had more, but it works good like it is. Keep the pics coming!

Worked on my kart a little today.
I will clean up my welds tomorrow. I have a rolling kart !!

Great, but the spindles you have are for a trailing arms setup.
that is: you mounted them backwards and most likely swapped r&l.

better correct that now before you fab the rest of the steering ;)

Have you thought about a pocket bike type motor? They have a somewhat flat design that would fit nice under the tub. Also, we bought a off brand atv 90cc motor that is the same flat design. Bigger, but still a nice candidate for a build like yours.

I will switch the spindles before welding anything to the steering. As for the motor, I'm sure there are better choices but I'm on a budget. I got this bar stool racer used and in very bad shape. It was sitting outside in the weather for who knows how long. Plan to use as much as I can from it. Harbor Freight motors go on sale and then with a 25% off coupon I can get it for under 100.00. I will need a few more things but hope this build will be on the cheap. Its kinda a learning thing for me.

Thanks guys,
So now more on motors questions please.
3 or 6.5
I have a 72 sprocket on now, what would be a good set up.
6.5 with 10 or 12 clutch and 72 sprocket?
3 hp with same same ?
I can get a new sprocket if needed but 72 is what I robbed from the bar stool.

Light with a short wheelbase and 11" tires, I'd shoot for the 4:1 range with the 6.5, simply to prevent it from jumping at tip-in. If the budget allowed, I'd start with a 12 tooth clutch, and pick up a 52, 60, and 72 tooth spockets. Last I checked, APS had #35 2 piece sprockets for roughly $8. This would give you 3 common ratios to tune your wagon to your desired preference.

Yeah, you are going to have to try and "dial" in the desired ratio, but I would also maybe try go for a higher ratio to reduce the torque on take off

So I think I'm going to get the 3 hp motor. Its smaller and I hope it will be enough to have some fun on. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get it?? Other than less power?
Thanks

I wouldn't see why a 3 horse wouldn't work; since you can gear it to pull, and you wouldn't need it to bee too fast to be scary. With the 212 being so cheap, if you decide in the future to get crazier, the option is always there on the cheap.

The difference in power comes down to a difference in torque, they are both governed to 3600rpm, but, that difference in torque will mean you need different gearing; I doubt you'll move with 3hp & 5:1 gearing, you may need to head for 7:1...

I would think a 3.5 would be fine for a fart around cars show cart. Or for kids too plus it'll be smaller to sit around. But since HF has them at about a. $20 difference I'd go big haha. I plan on using a vintage Clinton bwahaha
