Attitude? What attitude? You had a bad one right of the bat. You complain I don't have pictures then when I provide them, they're not to your tastes. My only sign of this "attitude" I had was in post #39 when I tried to get back on track to the thread and stop the sarcastic and somewhat childish manner in which you responded to each and every response you had. It would have been much easier if you just helped me, but instead you decide to prove your point, and make it seem that people should cater to you (like DeathMachine said). He has (unlike you) provided helpful, teacher like insight on the problem at hand and it was all devoid of rude and sarcastic speech. I have had not attitude towards you unless you gave me some. All I want to do is fix my kart, and I shouldn't have to go through arguments and keyboard wars over the internet for it.

Such pretty colors...

Man, the effort you took to beautify my words must have been extraordinary! Where do you find the time?

That would require reading the things I copy and paste - which is difficult when all blocked up that that.
That seems like much more work which I have no time for. Isn't finding the best possible answer good nuff?????:jeez louise, you guys are :welcome2:
:roflol:

If that's true, then how did you know the info you pasted was pertinent to the thread? :D

So, what DO you read before posting?

Hmm. GAB on a post, LOL. Made it look like a ransom note.

I agree; Total GAB. Never seen anyone go total GAB on a post. I think this is a forum first. :wai:

Does the differential have a model name and number?

I'd be willing to bet it has other applications besides this buggy...

Did a search ,it appears to have been made by Dana/Spicer for use in lawn tractors and UTV's.

Oh, and to be further helpful, and to cut down on whining, to make a thumbnail you click in the go advanced button in the reply, click manage attachments, and then either upload from computer or enter the url.

Seriously, out of 50+ forums I frequent, this is the only one with a member wanting smaller pics, most of the time people want larger for detail.

Anyway, I need to do a little more google searching but if it ends up that you need to go live axle, the first thing you need to do is remove your wheels and see what kind of hub you have and it's size. A cheap caliper is good enough, the $10 Harber Freight digitals work well.

Now that there aren't any huge pictures on this page...I can join back in...

If you can find it and afford it..replacing the diff is going to be the best...but probably not the only...and probably the most expensive solution.

It really depends on what you want and what you have now...(do you want or need reverse? ) Does the differential still function? I have answered your questions and given you solutions but can only base on feedback.

Now, here's my feeling on this...you pulled it in the garage...it's functional. As I said once already...you CAN make a patch and JB Weld it over the broken portion of the broken cover....and Yes...it needs gear oil...but...you can fix it for $20 or $500...

To check if your differential is working...you will need to spin the imput and stop each wheel independently and see if the other spins...if so...then clean EVERYTHING...(inside and out)...and make a patch....(it can be a beer can...but the the thicker the better)...refill it ...and go on down the road.

So. The differential DOES work. I jacked up the kart, held one wheel and spun the other and it works. They both spin independently from one another. Looks like I will try my best to patch it. I'll take it off, clean it and find some sort of metal to patch it (I have no clue what to use though) Thanks for the input and I'l stop with the large pictures. I'm not new to computers just this forum

That is a fairly large section to patch.

Question- Have you ever made anything from fiberglass?

It might be possible to make a fiberglass cover for that hole, if nothing seems to be moving around mechanically where it shouldn't. Then you could use silicone to seal it and some short self tappers to install it- but make a solid rock guard for it and attach that to the frame.

Personally, I try not to modify a manufactured device if I can avoid it. If I am building a one off machine I will use whatever is readily available. Just a glimpse into my thought process on repairs.

So are you reccomending to repair or get a new one? I think I should try to repair, and if it works, it works. If it doesn't, I'll either buy a new one or convert it to live axle (which I don't want to do).

I just saw you want to repair it...
Go back where you were riding, the White smoke was probably where it broke, and oil went on your exhaust.
Anyway go back and look for the broken part. Then maybe you can patch it back in with JB weld.

Thank you, but I already have great tires and 2 disc brakes. This is also a bit pricey. All I need is the axle, sprocket, and a way of attaching it. A live axle will be my last resort as well.

Probably pretty stupid, but is there a way I could weld the differential gears together, so that it wouldn't need oil, or would it? Would I even need a patch since there would be not moving gears? Again, probably stupid.

Correct, that is my attitude. If you can fix it and it works, winner! If it doesn't, you are just out some time and a little material. Occasionally, you will find a replacement that is so cheap it's a no brainer to just bolt in a new part, but that doesn't happen often.

Yeah...I'm still thinking it was the reverse gear turning loose...you can tell better than me....if it was from hitting something...pieces of that case should be inside....(make sense? )

And the fact the linkage was disconnected makes me even more suspicious that there was some grinding going on in reverse or another gear....but anyway....

I can only offer what I would do....I wasn't kidding about the beer can....and you could actually just do several layers and be fine. (Probably easiest...again...the thicker the better...but , it's not like that diff is under pressure, it just needs to be sealed.

If it fails later....just sue me ....at: 'Poboylikethatsgonnahappen@bloodfromaturnip.com.'

I'll patch it up today! Thanks for the help! And one quick question... What oil should I use?

I would imagine 90w gear oil...as a default...I would go with it...but since you have the specs on the model now....maybe you or someone else can verify manufacturers recommendations.
