Looks like a nasty impact caused that to me. You shouldn't really expect to blame anything on a guy you met via craigslist. The only person you can ever really blame is the guy in the mirror, he's the one who didn't do his due diligence. If all you gave was $500 than I'd be thankful for the frame and motor and find me a new diff. That thing looks trashed. After you find a new part I would recommend investing in a skid plate.

So... looks like I'm getting a live axle. Great. Is there some sort of kit to convert it or what? What would be the cheapest parts (that aren't total crap) that would suffice? Or would it need to be something a little more heavy duty since it's a 18 hp engine? I'd like to keep the tires and the brake aswell.

I look at this pic and think "That don't look right" and I'm not talking about the gapin wound.
Notice the $5.00 worth of stacked washers

And what's with the allthread?

This almost look like it's a riding lawnmower axle, upside down.

My guess is that the trans had been out before. I would investigate getting a replacement- even if it means medium bucks, having a functional f-n-r trans is really nice, I wish the Manco's I have were so equipped.

BTW I am NOT John, nor do I punish OP's with blocks of text like ^,
But I dare you to find a better answer! LOL

You know (right?) that you can insert your cursor, hit return and... break up massive blocks of text by making them into tidy little paragraphs before you submit your reply. Just FYI. :)

So you did punish the OP and the rest of us regardless.

Not only is there a gaping hole in the gearbox but one of the mounting bolts has sheared off taking a portion of the casing with it (seen in the first pic IIRC).

What did you hit? Was it a stump or stone?

That would require reading the things I copy and paste - which is difficult when all blocked up that that.
That seems like much more work which I have no time for. Isn't finding the best possible answer good nuff?????:jeez louise, you guys are :welcome2:

I'd like a live axle, but is there any way I can keep the tires? Some seem to be oriented at changing a dead axle to a live axle. So, does that mean I have the correct tires?

Do you or anyone else know where I can get or replacement or do I have to just go live axle? My only problem with live axle is I have no clue how to do it. And since the driven gear on the torque converter went to the Gearbox/Differential thing, I have no clue where to put that. And then also, how am I going to be able to connect a chain to it? If anything I'd like to get an FNR gearbox, and hopefully not spend too much.

First you get all snarky and sarcastic when he does't post pics, then you whine and cry because he posts pics that are too big for your 33.6k dial up.... Maybe if you explain how to use the manage attachments to make thumbnails...OR- since you are the only one I see with their panties in a bunch over bandwidth, maybe you should catch up with technology, or just realize the world has faster internet now and deal with it.... BTW, many people upload to the cloud directly from their phones and making thumbnails is a largely unnecessary step these days.

Sorry, but I get irritated when a individual thinks everyone else should cater to them. Otherwise, I enjoy your posts and insights.

Thanks. I didn't want to get rude as all I want to do is ride this kart before school starts soon. I just want some help looking for a fix to this.

Classic coming from you...who just recently loaded a huge useless picture in another thread, and aren't exactly new to the forum, just have a bad attitude.

I'm not the only one bothered by huge pictures....but guys like you are like the people that open their door up to let their dog out to crap on the neighbors lawn and then say: "It's not a problem for me...you should build a fence....."

I asked for a PIC...one and it wouldn't be so bad....but a whole page of them is a pain. You've been here 2 years and are still too ignorant to use thumbnails. Yet, I see all the time first time posters who introduce themselves, fill out a profile location, and post thumbnails.

I can't post links....so why don't you explain it wiseguy...(if you even know.)

Last time I checked this thread was for FIXING a problem not MAKING them. I came here for help and not to watch people fight over useless things. Either you can help me with the problem, or take your sarcasm and leave, because it is not helping me or anyone find a fix for the problem at hand.

Ummm...I believe I WAS trying to help you..and without a pic...this was going nowhere...

Even after the first set of pics...I looked the other way...but I posted like I did to test your attitude....and you've failed miserably.

I'm not the one looking for help here...YOU are going to dictate HOW you get it and tell me I can leave?

Have a nice life....:surrender:
