You need a Sprocket Hub,
Also I think you said #35 chain. Most popular gears for that are 12 tooth clutch and 72 tooth Axle Sprocket. Giving you 6:1 ratio.

Pardon my ignorance but the sprocket hub I'm looking at on ebay. Says it's 1" bore and 1/4" keyway.. The Pic is hard to tell but does this mean that the key doesn't go all the way down the inner shaft?

Is this out of your price range?
$90 to ship to Chicago. Too pricey for me.

Maybe Canadian Princess Auto Delivers to you?

How far from a Home Depot?
I think there are at least three in Alaska? LOL

They have Lifan 420cc that I found for $250
But don't carry in store. You might be able to order for pick up.

I assume Alaska has some SnowBlowers / SnowThrowers and SnowMobiles right?

There should be a slot machined in the axle (1/4" wide and 1/8" deep)

That holds half of a 1/4" wide by 1/4" tall key).

The other half goes in the slot is the hub (again 1/4" wide by 1/8" deep).

The slot I mention is a called a keyway.

Pictures are good.
Most of the time, my explanations are not.

So should I search for the sprocket hub to be keyed all the way or is the 1/4 okay? I understand what the key is., just not sure on how they all assemble properly.. Yea i got home depot near, only downside is the mark up they add to prices. If there is an add or anything downsouth. It is almost 100 more in alaska for motors etc.. even dollar menu at McDonald's is more up here. , and our subways don't offer the 5 dollar foot longs... found that motor your talking about (bob) it was 350$, is it better to spend that or get a few 212s, an call it good?

Sorry also forgot we do have snow blowers and I've owned 2 snow machines, 2 dirt bikes. (440 artic cat, bombardier, yamaha 125 ttr 4 stroke, 2 stroke mfc110, a few mini bikes, and one kid quad) I'm not to noob mechanics but the initial setup is new to me and I don't have a current cart to break down. Thanks for all the help everyone!

The 1/4 keyway is 1/4" wide Keyway. It will go through the entire bore of the Hub. That is what you want.
Share the link if you want to be sure.

I was wondering what if you could salvage an engine from some power equipment or a sled.
The later being more complicated.

I like the twin 212 idea.
But you need two clutches or torque converters then.
Two sprockets. Two Hubs. Two chains.
More Parts, more complicated..

One big engine and one big clutch or TC may be easier and cheaper in the long run.

Awesome thank you on the keyway confusion. I would love two motors but for now I was thinking maybe 2 fun karts, or at least more motors for the price of one..
I've seen a few post rebate deals an such on this site. Even the basic 212 predator isn't bad at 120$.. but to spend 350+. Isn't bad just sure it's worth it. As these are just toys for me an my family. But no one likes to go slow. So if I have to pony up the funds, then I will.

I have two 3.5s and both need carb rebuilt but work and run. The other I have access to is a snow blower motor. Still on the blower but get wants 150 I think and it's got some wear. Hours are low but been left outside for years, you know the story..

..like the one on the banner in the ttop right corner of the site..

I could send you the plans for that kart if you like...

That would be considered a yard kart or, in a pinch, a race kart (but, not these days)...

As these are just toys for me an my family. But no one likes to go slow.

Geared correctly, the majority of karts average around 30mph running 5hp - 7hp engines...

I really like the Soldotna/Kenai area. It's true prices are higher there, but then again I bet you don't pay 17.99 a pound for sockeye fillets. I think it would be fun to have a kart up there to run around in but with all the mud puddles I'd want some sort of protection from the elements and the engine.
