Title says it all.. so I've been strolling across many kart/mini bike sites an this one seems to be most active with open minded folks.

So build goes like this I live in alaska and get screwed on shipping almost everything. I've found an engine i want or i think i need i should say. (Pic from ebay).. mind you I'm a full grown adult not looking for sandrail status. Just fast go kart, this engine is great deal but doesn't ship to me (plz help with suitable one that will ship to alaska)

second which is best tire set up for dirt roads. And the gear ratios on which to run. Sorry if question seems dumb but from my reading it's hard to get a solid answer on what set up would be best for me.

As far as frame I plan to build my own, Mario kart-ish.... I am sort of wanting to have a kart like the upper right banner on this site. As much as possible I should say

I will also be buying a live axel (I think that's the best for my goal) so any help with that would be great..
If I over looked anything else I can't make or would be too much of a pain to construct please let me know.

I have a 3.5 sitting in my shed. And will buy the next 6hp one I find at a yard sale. But I figure those may not cut it for me. Wanting some pep. If I'm wrong please let me know if I can burn out an hit good speeds with a different engine. I'm willing to try an spruce up the engine as well with mods that do sumthen. Hate any additions to motors that don't really do much.

That 16 horse motor is the one I want, issue is the shipping I'm looking at a 350 retail if I get it shipped to local home depot. Even a harbor freight is past 300,, without shipping. I'm trying to find another person in lower 48 whom I can ship too.. then turn around an send to me privately an should cost less then the 300 plus retail when all is said an done. Hopefully.

I was surprised to see that Harbor Freight can ship a 212 predator for 6 bucks! (Lower 48) but still... They get shipping prices on Volume. So I think a retailer would have a better price than a Private citizen, but always worth checking.

Yea the maple leaf is several hours away. And from boarder probably several more hours to civilization. I can probably have them ship from canada. But generally international shipping is pricey.

See, that's strange to me; for me, international shipping means it must arrive by either ship or plane but, when you're on the same land mass, should international shipping still apply?

Now obviously you are going to be paying a bit of money to get it to you out where you live, maybe you could get a box in Point Roberts WA...
Which a tiny little spit of US territory.... that is still considered Lower 48...... (Technically its Canada.... but will hold on that debate till later... lets get you moving first) It is often a point of recieving for shipping from the states here in the lower mainland area, people just pop across to get there stuff at the postal depo and return at the border checkpoint.
In your case, Maybe look into seeing if the package could be shipped via a courier or other shipper of sort, as that point itll be In country and on the right side to get it to you....

I cant imagine it wont be more than half shipped from there....

Will be buying a motor shortly, I can only find a seller that offers a predator 212. Will a 6.5 be good enough, or should I hold out an keep on searching for the 16hp? Would also like to get tires an axel at the same time so the weeks in shipping aren't too far apart.. I plan to be on dirt roads an not the hill climbs. So would the typical small slicks be okay?, and please any good suggestions on type or location to shop... thanks again

The 6.5 pred is a good choice for a smaller kart/buggy.
Im sure there is an industrial shop(you have alot of mining and otherwise industries in Alaska) near town that will sell you a length of keyed shafting as an axle, you will most likely also get pillow block bearings there aswell. That might help on shipping.
You will need to get sprockets and other driveline parts, Im sure those can be sourced at the same industrial shop as the axle.

Wheels you can get at a lawn mower shop(turf tires) or a shop that sell snow machines of sorts( blowers and quads ect).


A Clutch, will be a bit of a problem in your area, so see if you can get that to ship with the motor, or at least cheap to your area. The chain size typical to use for this kind of buggy/kart is #35 as this is most common...... What ever size you get make sure you can find the correct sprockets for that chain...

Maybe this to help.. pic of my road aka. My race track. So what size tire is best with a gear ratio to get off the start quick? I did want the smaller tires for the overall look but not at the cost of performance. Thanks again.

I would get 13" tall tires. and 2 split sprockets. On for 5:1 gearing and 1 for 6:1.
Then see what you prefer. 6:1 will get off the line quicker, but 5:1 will be faster top speed.

With a dirt road 6:1 will allow tire spin from a dead stop.

Found the tires I need. Big thank you.. now for the front end is there a package for the front end? Bearing an such? Also found this deal for a few sprockets in a combo Racing Go Kart Split Sprocket Set #35, 69-72. For 30 bucks... PIC INCLUDED.

Good Price, I use an Identical sprocket. But those are only 1 tooth differences. For fine tuning to a particular track. You would wan something more like 60-70-80 tooth combos.

I agree with chancer; if you want to make sure you will get the perfect ratio for your terrain, id try to find a set of sprockets with a bit wider range of teeth; like 60-70-80

I was thinking 15" on the rear for a little more ground clearance; I suppose it depends on how the kart is set up...

I really want the mario kart-ish look.. like the one on the banner in the ttop right corner of the site.. what type would that be considered?
Also wonder what tooth count I'd get on the other sprocket? So from clutch(which I assume is best for my terrain and not TC.) to the 60-70-80 sprocket, which is hooked to my live axel. . How do I mount sprocket? And I do plan on running the pillow bearings that were suggested on here.
