why a new lash cap?

Holy moley $271 + the cost of the engine.

Just out of interest, why not a motorbike engine? I'm curious as to why some people avoid them.

we dont avoid them, we just like to see tiny motors go vroom without the need of a tranny

the engine was given to me for free. i had this engine for number of years and im constantly modifying it. it more of a learn process i guess. in the future i would to start on bike engine. plus like kazkepox said it's so cool to see these little engines perform so well. i thought the lash caps would be good investment so i got them.

also i haven't found many bike engines in my area. everything i get has to be shipped. lol

Because really, Not everyone can go find a motorcycle engine and mock it all up. He decided to modify his engine like many others and hes learning. It also adds peace of mind when you build your own engines...

how do u guys remove 18lb springs with slpit retainers off your engines?

i installed with fingers but it i think to do 26 lb i gunna need a tool

yeah i think my racer engine got 26 or someting in it.. took me 5 hours to get all the springs in(4 of em) of course not in one day...

i have two of these for gx 160. it's gunna be a struggle. lol

oh its a ohv ok well i was doin it on a flat head.. a ohv will be way easyer.

you could probaly make a tool that you can use to step on then put the retainers in.

horrible news i did all the mods didn't want to work. i got it to run but reved up like crazy and stopped. i thought it had too much compression so i put back stock piston and head gasket still doesn't want to work. im goin crazy i have no clue what to do next. could it be the cam now?
