Quick Question: Do I have to tune my carb if I change the stock air filter?

Re-jet to a #90 main jet. Your spark plug will run golden brown. You should also look into building a high flow header for better power at higher rpm.

:iagree:

I used a #90 and a new header. pulled the gov and dropped in some 18lb valve springs for 8 bucks! Runs like a dream.

This is not a cure-all solution. Each engine is itself. I would suggest getting a precise drill bit set and slowly opening up the stock jet until it runs properly. Then ID the bit used, and buy the proper jet.

That's is exactly what I was told not to do...Have fun with a hole in ur block!

Why is this exactly? Flywheel explosion?

i was always told to go 90 and mine has ran good with it, but im not out to suggest it for everyone, and i was told if your upgrading your valvetrain, you best be upgrading your rod and flywheel, because without the stock springs, it dosent let your valves float, id your valves dont float, you could very well get a free hole in your block

I've seen worse. Oldminibikes.com immediately comes to mind.
Flywheel explosions, burning clutches, drive ratios, and carburetor problems, are so very common and so badly misunderstood.

I just remember that if you have stock springs the engine valves will float. With stronger spring they wont and it will cause the RPM to tear up your engine.

Whoops!

#90 jet is the closest thing to a cure-all solution. It consistently proves accurate for mildly modded 6.5hp clones (high flow air and exhaust). HOWEVER, I agree with you though, redsox; engines are never exactly the same (especially clones and especially once you modify beyond what I mentioned earlier).

JH, if you're looking for a quick and easy solution, it is #90. If you are looking to do it right, do what redsox said. Sorry guys; should've explained myself a little better.

This is total crap. I don't care if you put in 30lb springs, they will still float EVENTUALLY, but something else may go before they float.
