ahaha interesting find here... Which leads me to what I will be naming this kart.

Found one of the steering columns I yanked out of an 83 Isuzu Trooper a few years ago, Will be using this for the kart (Key ignition and all)

I now shall be refering to this project as the Isuzu T-kart!

ignition & starter solenoid all wired up, steering is done. (Used the steering reduction box out of the golf cart, works nice, gives me a wide range of steering.)

Going to start on some engine mounts now (Thank god both of my ICs had mounting plates still attached to them as this will make mounting the thing a breeze)

Ran out of welding rods aswell, went and picked up another box of 7014s, **** good rods.

Pictures to come.

Went on the first test drive today! woohoo.

But as I figured the thing is slow as hell, but with buttloads of torque!

Im assuming those golf cart rear ends have a ton of reduction in them.

yeah, I wouldn't doubt if I'd be able to pull some smaller 4-wheelers backwards right now haha.

Anyhow, Guess I need to calculate the current ratio and figure something out.

Man do I love the sound of these opposed twins.

sounds like a mini v8 with straight pipes.

anyhow Kaptain, what kind of setup are you using on your kart to achieve some higher speeds?

I've got a few clutches, but they all need to be machined to fit onto my crankshaft (and I'm not sure I want to shell out cash for a new set)

even with the clutch Im not even sure it would be much faster however.

Long time since I've updated, and long time since I've even touched the thing.

Been working on my bike that I use to commute daily (hit 10k miles and the valves wen't kaput)

Anyhow, some future plans for the build are to get rid of the golf cart rear end (I don't want to deal with all that reduction.)

Need to get a few more chunks of tubing for more bracing.

I may keep the 18hp twin, but I've been keeping my eyes open for some salvage bike motors.

Need to find some workable sheet metal for belly pans and other random locations (behind the foot controls)

Using chunks of the dashboard from the Isuzu trooper to fab up a mini-dashboard for this thing.

Hey... I just found your thread... I see its been a few months since you've posted. I hope you still check this site! I'm working on a cart with a similiar design. I have the B&S 18 hp twin also. What clutch system did you end up going with? Do you have, (or can you take), pictures to post? I'm also going to use an EZ-Go golf cart steering gear box, could you post some pictures of that too?

The problems I'm running into are:
1) the TC on the engine requires a long belt to clear the engine, I can't seem to find the ideal location to mount the jackshaft.

2) The steering box from the golf cart is not "rigid" where it connects to the tie rods. I haven't mounted it yet, but it looks like if I were to attach it the way it is then instead of turning the wheels it would just slip the rods either forward or aft. I'm thinking I need to fabricate some kind of guide for the tie rods and connectors.

Anything you can post would help my cause. Thanks!
