How long is the track? That is your 1st worry.

The longer the track, the less torque you'll need. On the shorter tracks, your opponent would have the lead from the start. If it's a longer track, he would top off sooner, whereas with a lower gear ratio you can still accelerate.

He said it's "about 500 meters".

So around 1/2 a mile. If so, you can gear it a bit low. 14/60 if you can. 17/60 is quite low.

the bigger the sprocket (the gear) on the motor and the smaller the sprocket on the axile makes it go faster. but it will take off slow. but the opposite gearing makes the gokart take off fast but go slower.

what he's saying is that a 13 tooth clutch and a 60t axel will have horible accel. but have great top speed and its just the opposite if you have a 10t clutch and a 72t axle

13/60 is a great setup IMO. It's a good average.

I'm running a 10/45 setup. On acceleration it lacks, when the cam kicks in and the kart starts speeding up, it's all speed from there on.

45!? They only sell 52-72. What did you do steal off a bike and put 4" rims on that?

They do sell 45's though. You have to special order them on eBay though, around $25 shipped.

And they're 12" Slicks:

No, I wouldn't. You'd probably throw the rod before anything good happened.
