Probably. Oh wait, it's a 2 stroke... ah...

Well, Russ, this is your area.
I was thinking of 4 cycle also.
Show facts to backup what you perceive to be true.

Also, you have yet to tell me why it is bad for a 2 cycle engine to run backwards.

Who said it's bad for a 2 stroke to run backwards?

A book I read when I didn't know what a go kart was

4 cycle? Pretty much the same thing. If you're so sure it won't why not get a tach, and a spare 5 horse Briggs? Then we'll see who's right and who's wrong. Billet rods were created for a reason.

Hmm, googled it. Guess you're right Russ :) It's possible, but I also read that in certain, running them backwards caused the oil pump not to work. Might've been why I said that... either way, a lesson well learnt for me.

Listen friend...I have more tools and gauges than you can possibly imagine. I have 6 (at last count) unmodified 5 hp Briggs w/no governors.
All routinely run at max RPM. It's what I do. Never EVER a broken rod or exploding flywheels.
What you don't seem to understand is that these engines have built in limiters other than governors. Limiters---like floating valves, undersized venturi and intake ports. The list goes on.
As far as what you know (or don't know), I could say more but don't wish to be banned from this forum. I have much to offer, all of which is documented fact and not my opinion.

What oil pump???

You know guys, I don't worship Russ *closes closet door to hide Russ shrine*, but the guy knows what he's talking about, for the most part. He humbly asked what a dresser grinder was when he didn't know. Hmmm... or maybe he did know and was testing us..

Anyway, Everything he's told me about the 2-cycle LB I've been working on has been dead on accurate! I just think it's funny when you guys try to prove him wrong. :arf: He has WAY more experience dealing with small engines than the majority of any of us here has. He's been dealing with them for longer than some of us have been alive!

Sometimes we just have to accept the fact that because we know quite a bit about a particular field, we don't know EVERYTHING about it and there is more room to learn and expand our knowledge. We need to drop our ambition and pride and be open to new ideas, experimentation helps in the process.

*NBC's "The more you know" theme plays in the background (the younger generation won't get that one)*:arf:

Russ is a great asset to have on this site with all of his small engine knowledge, after all, the majority of our karts are powered by them. He gives us information for FREE that we'd normally have to spend countless hours looking up ourselves or spend time going around to lawnmower shops to ask questions about. He's regularly on the site and always willing to answer your questions, you don't even have to leave home! Just give the guy a chance to explain things and then verify it for yourself to see if his suggestions work for you.

So Russ, here's to you buddy! :cheers2:

BTW, this doesn't mean I'm brown-nosing, I'm still gonna give you a hard time when I can! :roflol:

It was one of those 2 stroke tractors of some type. Not the average 2 stroke.

And I agree, I can't prove I read it. Who'd remember what book I checked out 3 years ago?

Anywho, that 5HP post is amazing! Guess I'm out to try someday! :)

I'm losing the will to live...
It's been said "A man can be judged by the company he keeps."
I think I'm in deep :poop: and most certainly doomed.

Now...see what you guys did? I almost said a bad word!

Thanx...:cheers2:

I can still remember some of the books I checked out 12 years ago in middle school. At least the ones that had valuable information. :arf:

Heh, well then you must not know me.

2nd grade - Most AR points in my grade
3rd grade - Most AR points (Accelerated reader) points in my grade.
4th grade - Most AR points in the school
5th grade - 2nd Most AR points in the entire school (got to be assistant principal for one day :D)

6th grade - Close one, but most AR points in the entire school again.

AR points are generated by reading a book, taking a computerized quiz on it, and getting a certain number of points. The average book points in elementary school was .5 points. Generally I read 2 170 page novels a day, inbetween classes.

And at the public library a few years ago, I checked out books by the 2 digits.

Am I supposed to remember EVERYTHING? :rolleyes3:

When I was in school we had to do book reports.... We didn't have fancy computers like now days. When we had a project, we couldn't look up stuff on the internet, we had to go find it in books. When I was in kindergarten, I was the only one who knew how to read fluently because I had been taught to read before I even started school!
