:surrender: I'm going to make my go-kart fast. I'm going to be in a race soon. And my opponents Kart doesn't mess around.

I have a briggs 2 stroke 5hp with 4000 rpm.

His kart is a briggs 4 cycle 5hp with 3600 rpm.

His kart smoked mine when we were just having fun...To top it if...His rear wheel had a flat..

I need more speed.:toetap05:

So..I was thinking. Bigger wheels? I thought that bigger wheels give you more speed. My rear wheels are 14" his are like...7.5". He said that If my rims were smaller then I'd go faster because my big wheels are making more work for my engine. Is this true? That sounds true but I've been told wrong so many times. I need to clarify this now.

Thanks. And wish me luck! Thank you guys!:cornut:

Something is wrong if you can only get 4000 out of a 2 stroke. Bigger wheels give higher gearing will increase top speed at the expense of time it takes getting there.

Your friend is getting the most out of his usable rpm/hp by using smaller tires.
Your larger diameter tires are potentially faster than his but, you have very low torque because of larger size tires. Torque is there. Small tires will unleash it. He is making the most out of his low end torque. You are making the least.
He is reaching his max rpm/hp and your setup is only about halfway there. Maybe less.
Match his drive train, and you'll kick his butt.
You will pass him at the start and he'll never catch up.

So, make my acceleration alot better? So I should get a clutch with less teeth and a sprocket with more teeth? Is that what your saying?

smaller wheels mean more torque and less speed unless you just have some like 35'' wheels and you have absulutly no torque

Running ungoved is pretty safe on American and Japanese engines as long as its kept under load. Your probably at more risk filling your can at the gas station

you keep getting bigger?

think of it like this. if its a small track or circuit and you have to stop or brake and accel again, you want
bigger sprocket on the axle and smaller wheels.

if its like a 10k (random distance) straight track with no stops or turn, get a tiny axle sprocket and very big wheels. you will be smoked off the line but will end far sooner than him.

thats the simplicity of it, now with the info posted by others above, adjust your kart to suit.

I guess so...But I wouldn't wanna go to big or else all the weight would lower my top speed and torque. Correct?
