So I got my new engine today its a predator 6.5hp 212cc and I tried putting my clutch on it but it will not slide all the way on the shaft. The key on the engine shaft stops it from sliding in all the way. There's about an inch left to go on the shaft that the clutch cant go in anymore. Clutch is brand new. Please help?!?!?

Remove key and try again.
Yeah I've tried it 3 times with no luck. The keyway on the clutch isn't very long so it hits the end on it and on the shaft the key is all the way to the back. So its like there's no way for it to slide further because the key is hitting already

No but the little slot for the key isn't very long. So the key hits the end of the slot on the clutch and hits the shaft slot as well. The clutch isn't supposed to have the key slot all the way through is it? I feel like if it was all the way then the clutch would slide all the way on the shaft without the key hitting the end

you need to cut the key down some just a lil at a time to see where your going with it.

when you put the clutch on is the key sticking out the back any while on the shaft?

My clutch has a built in key....
But again
Sounds as if you have a wrong something or tapered something.
This is not a key problem. Thekey would not have made the clutch grind and smoke. This sounds more like a gear ratio issue, where the clutch is working too hard and is slipping. What is the tooth count on the clutch as well as the axle sprocket. Please also give us the tyre diameter. This will help us troubleshoot your problem better.

I think i would just cut the key shorter. It would then slide further onto the shaft
It slides all the way back if I use the key that came with the clutch. Its about 1/4 of the size in length of the key that came with the motor but it starts grinding and smoking. Like the engine shaft is spinning inside the clutch
